This is beautiful & something tech industry could use more:

“Empathy engineer is someone who considers the social, cultural and emotional factors that influence how society interacts with technology, and focuses on blending the human perspective with tech-driven problem-solving.”
Empathy engineer: is this the £110k job of your dreams?
British applicants are missing out on lucrative contracts in the tech sector because they haven’t got a clue what the job actually is

The secret sauce of why Internet peaked in the 90’s isn’t because dev tools were better, - it’s because the people building it were.

The strangest thing about North Americans ( both conservative & liberal ) is the non-ironic use of the term “white” as a meaningful descriptor of identity.

People of the world do not define themselves by generational exposure to sunlight, but lineage/tradition/geography/language & religion.
Racist eugenicists from the 1920s: we are so back

Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work.

"It’s got a lot of moving pieces"

"It's in the syllabus"

One of the healthiest things I’ve done was to stop trying to read/watch/play *everything* that gets released, - millennials were raised in a media-hungry era constantly plugged in to culture, but it’s no longer possible to meaningfully digest everything, and it’s ok, - eat only when hungry.

Just to get the lay of the land, do I perhaps know of any Europe-based Unreal Engine (C++) developers on here who do freelance work?

Or UE-curious people who would be comfortable with C++ development

Nothing concrete (yet) but I’d like to know of you in case things move forward!?

If you feel like helping a Brazilian dev who also makes music, today is the best way to support me and my work

I highly recommend Ex Machina, a concept album I did about computation, but there are other projects in my profile

I always hoped coding would become a ubiquitous skill among general public ( in the same way driving is ), but the sheer number of programming languages contributed to it being a specialization. Maybe we should’ve picked one as a global standard & just taught it to every kid in the world.

For the past few Bandcamp Fridays I’ve been a little self conscious posting about it, since I haven’t released any new music in awhile. However! People are always super cool and nice and supportive, and I’m very grateful 💚

So pls check out my music. It may not be new, but I’m still very proud of it

This is a good time to start a site with a directory of companies using Ai, - to track & boycott them into oblivion, - the Slop Team list.
We don’t use generative AI at Strange Scaffold and I can confirm that a *lot* of other studios are not—whether indie or AAA.

Get outta here with this normalization bullshit.

AI execs keep giving advice that young programmers should focus on AI instead of doing internships, etc. this is abominable advice, for many reasons. I’m going to focus on two:

Agree with this, - and we also need more funding models to make journalism sustainable, - whether through

1) free platform with ad revenue sharing or
2) a Netflix for journalism,

this industry needs major support fast, - it’s the public’s best shield against fascist propaganda.
How do you fix journalism?

Fucking pay for it.

Stop complaining about paywalls and subscribe.

The rise of right-wing media is because the rich funded it. The fall of legacy media is because the rich funded it and then decided not to.

I think people would support a crowdfunding campaign for complete Adobe toolset replacement if a dev team committed to it.

Coded from scratch & no ai, - we should control the development of our tools.

If hardware continues appreciating we may see the return of communal gaming spaces. Paying a low flat fee for a highend machine with curated big + indie games in a cozy atmosphere & good food makes sense for casual gamers who just want some weekend fun, - a ‘gaming-as-cinema’ experience.
Yeah, it was a very social place. People would usually play multiplayer, like football games, fighting games and co-op stuff like Metal Slug or Dynasty Warriors.

Some places would make tournaments, people would buy & share accessories like multi-tap and memory cards... it was a place to hang out.
