One of the worst analyses of Sinners I’ve read—completely missing how the film explores Irish colonization, forced assimilation into Western whiteness, & the Irish vampires’ attempt at appropriation as trying to find lost cultural connection. Vampirism was a symbol for whiteness, not white people.

A snippet from a Sinner review that reads: “Among the film’s welter of ideas is that cultural cross-fertilization equals appropriation or theft — that Blues music would have remained “pure,” if not for those evil white spirits, as represented here by, yes, Irish-Celtic folk music, whose artists stole the Blues from Black People for purely selfish ends.”

I don’t have a lot of capacity to deal with this but I just found out the sixth edition of the Disability Studies Reader is out. Four years ago a bunch of disability studies scholars, activists & artists protested our inclusion in this textbook.
