I am struggling with what might be a generational experience. The gulf war was pretty politically formative for me. It’s not history so much as memory this time.

It is destabilizing to see almost the exact same gameplan but this time without the guardrails that at the time I took for granted.

Biggest takeaway: what a difference an engaged active passionate school librarian has made in our HS this year (we were without one for awhile). In creating a welcoming space full of things to do, including reading, she has invited them in.

Yup
This is about elections.
As of 12/24/25, USPS changed policy on when they postmark mail. Mail dropped off is no longer guaranteed a same-day postmark. Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.

So, LLMs are a form of information laundering. They insulate you from the sources, which makes it impossible to judge the reliability of the source.

America, there's something you should know.

The top three kinds of books that young people (under 25) offer to sell me on Dec. 26 are:

- "Chicken Soup for the _____"

- "Oh, the Places You'll Go"

- Books of New Yorker cartoons

I'm just saying. Keep it in mind for graduations and birthdays, too.

So snow day tomorrow? ❄️
If you have snow to clear good idea to do it next few hours while sun is higher in the sky. Later this afternoon and tonight, any slush/snow will freeze solid and become tough to remove.

“Skilled librarians nurture a culture of reading, curate high-quality texts, collaborate w teachers and provide individualized support that is especially vital for struggling readers. Their presence is part of the ecosystem that helped MS move from near the bottom to the top of national rankings.”

Shout out to @juliaerin80.bsky.social for her idea of a Try It book club! I had a couple of students and a teacher join me yesterday and it was absolutely lovely. All of them said they were excited to come back for next week!

I got to read this book nearly a year ago and called it then… it was going to top all of the lists. This book is heartbreaking, beautiful and hopeful ❤️
And now Kirkus... I have never had a book appear on so many Best Books of the Year lists, and it's honestly a little overwhelming.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who has shared THE TROUBLE WITH HEROES this year and continues to put it into the hands of just-right readers. ❤️
