The cafe staff won't be at work on Friday, so I was going to be Pamcake Friday-less this week.

BUT! I am NOT pamcake-less, as the cafe guy called me over and said, "Hey! We made you pamcakes! (He pronounced them "pancakes". Weird.) Happy Thanksgiving!"

And I did NOT have to pay for them!

Remember that time when I was going to make a book called Monsters of North America with made up monsters but one of the monsters I made up was accidentally kinda naughty, because the clever (I thought) "inflancabra" made my friend from Mexico say-in an incredulous voice-"GOAT BLOWER"?

The lake in question is the Great Salt Lake, and this weird, pseudo-pliosaur is addicted to salt, and in a smaller illustration of the monster it is salting a bison. MAYBE IT WAS ARRESTED FOR A SALT? Yup, I typed it. Anyway, I was thinking I was going to call it the Salty Beast, but that sounded too something... So I called it the Beast of the Great Salt Lake. Which oddly, sounded NOT too something? I dunno. I just did the assault joke. Because assault is always funny? So this is the Inflancabra, which I totally thought should be the "Goat Inflator" in English, a little grey monster with a spikey porcupine quill type back. It has big red eyes, clawed hands with two fingers and a thumb, digitigrade legs, and a winning disposition, In one little picture you have an inflancabra embracing a goat, its mouth around the goat's muzzle, and then the next pic is a goat that's inflated like a balloon. I was going to make a joke in the book about how you can tell there's an inflancabra in the town because after a few days main street looks like a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade? But now, nearly 20 years later, I realize how many this is probably just a page of unintentional connections to different people's fetishes? Kinda? Sometime I hate the internet.

Okay, i said MONTHS ago i was going to make one of these and i finally did it!

But i have no clue how they managed to make these back in the 80s. I would have gone crazy trying to get everything the right size and positioning without having digital layers.

A large ceramic sculpture of a Carnotaur (think T-Rex but has horns coming out of their head over their eyes) done with black underglaze. This piece features sgraffito markings and my signature California Poppies crawling up it's sides and back. Also noting that the dinosaur looks rather happy. A photo of the back of the piece to show more of the Poppies curving up and around the back. The flower and it's stem have been coloured in using orange and green underglazes.

Drove to Idaho in the foggiest fog this morning, to see my nephew's homecoming. While I was at my sister's house she pulled out the wedding cake toppers I had sculpted for her and her hubby, based off of the monsters I always drew fir her.

I forgot how I thought they were kinda cute.

This is the thread for my minicomic, Into the Bladelands! I will be posting updates of anywhere from 2-4 pages here, hopefully to be finished before the end of the year.

Sky disappears. Ari gets left behind. Five years later, the door to the Bladelands opens again.
Into the Bladelans cover Ari (vo): When I was sixteen, my best friend disappeared. We grew up together in the woods between our houses. Sky could have fun no matter what. Sky: Pick up your sword and fith me like a man! Ari: Wait for me! Ari (vo): My favorite thing to do was just live in his world. Bully: Whatcha drawin, faggots? The map to your honeymoon? Sky punches him. Later, Ari tends to his wounds. Sky: You probably think I'm really stupid. Ari: I just think you're really brave. They kiss. Sky: We can't tell anyone about this, okay? Ari: Yeah, of course. A couple years pass. Sky and Ari are looking at the stars. Sky: Y'know, I think about it all the time. Ari: What we've been doing? Sky: No, man, the Bladelands! We'd run shit over there. Be warriors or kings or whatever. Ari: Heh, too bad it's not real. Sky: well, it could be. Ari: Dude. Sky: I'm just saying! Maybe we were picking up a signal or something. Like a radio station from another state, but with dragons. It feels like that sometimes. Y'know, I turn 17 tomorrow. And I'm starting to freak out a little because, like, this is it? I thought I could be more than this. Ari: Hey, you can be! When we're 18, we can get out of here. We'll move to the city. Together. Sky: I guess... it still just all feels so small. At least in the Bladelands, there's magic. And prophecy, and swords, and danger. You can be an adventurer. You can at least be, like, an important person. Ari: You're important, Sky. You're important to me. Sky: Heh. Gayyy. Ari: Shut up. Ari (VO): That was the last night I ever saw him. Ari walks away. Sky spots a mysterious portal behind a tree and reaches out to it. Ari (Vo): The next day, he was gone. We see a montage of Ari's lonely life. Sky's parents mourn and move away. Ari graduates. Gets a job working at a bookstore. The impromptu memorial for Sky rots. Ari (VO): And the next. And the next. And the next. And the next. And the next. And then five years were gone.
