Love a good niche museum!

Anyway, do *not* eat the porridge 💣
Hello. We're new here. 👋

Wondering what devil's porridge is? Sir Arthur Conan Doyle coined the phrase to describe the explosive materials he saw munitions workers at H.M. Factory Gretna mixing in large pans. They were making cordite.

Please don't eat devil's porridge. 💥

This photo was taken in 1911 using glass plate technology by Herbert Ponting who was part of Scott's Antarctic expedition,

The composition and detail are exquisite with the band of white snow/ice creating a perfect frame around the two people and the ship in the distance

Iconic imo

This thread reminds me of one of my regular rants:

I keep seeing researchers trying to make robot/AI "companions" to provide company or emotional support to disabled people.

I DON'T WANT A ROBOT TO BE MY FRIEND, I WANT IT TO CARRY MY SHIT FOR ME AND BECOME A SEAT WHEN I NEED TO SIT DOWN! 🤦‍♀️
There are absolutely zero useful, functional robots here. there is one that can "wave to people at a museum" and "talk to you" (in extremely narrow situations) and there are industrial ones I guess but there is no "robot revolution" and to report otherwise is misleading to the general public.

Took the (borrowed) Bronica out today as I'm still experimenting with medium format.

Don't expect to see the results any time soon, so here's one from a previous time I took it out to visit the (slightly punk) cows!

Photos!

Glorious sunny day today & I actually made it out to the park to take photos

Met a lady doing the same with a wee Canon digital and enthused about cameras for a while, she's off to look into film (join us!)

Today's will be a while so here's a similar vibe from last month

Sitting in the Wellcome Collection cafe and @robinince.bsky.social was at the next table eating a muffin.

To this day I regret not striking up a conversation
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

The image above may at first look like a plate from a Jules Verne novel, or perhaps a still from one of Georges Méliès' more fantastical moving pictures.

Annual shout out to all the kids who were *always* the fecking narrator 🙄

I see you, my people!
So - did you take part in a nativity play at school and if so, what part did you play?

I got the part of the frankincense guy - I was the only child in the class who could pronounce the word ...!
Nativity plays have been a much-loved part of the school year in infant and junior schools across the UK for many years. These performances brought the Christmas story to life with a mix of earnestness and unintentional comedy. Classrooms buzzed with excitement as tea towels and

Maybe not ever but a recent one:

Man from Environmental Health dept, standing in our bathroom observing a leak from upstairs neighbour -

"I like your inspection hatch"

THANK YOU kind sir! 🏅😊 Dude knows his leak protections.

Putting it in was my idea and literally nobody else has ever noticed
What is the best compliment you ever received? Putting aside whether or not you believed it.

Pleased to confirm that Kristie made it, she was great, and they weren’t kidding about the chickens 🐓
