In September 2025, Putin publicly proposed that the U.S. and Russia mutually observe New START limits for one additional year after the last remaining arms control treaty between the U.S. and Russia expires this February. The U.S. has yet to provide a formal public response to this proposal.

The North Koreans will probably soon have MIRVs. The Iranians will probably soon have the bomb.

Why am I so unimpressed by these strikes? Israel and the US have failed to target significant elements of Iran's nuclear materials and production infrastructure. RISING LION and MIDNIGHT HAMMER are tactically brilliant, but may turn out to be strategic failures. 🧵 1/17

“The French were right” is certainly a comment I have heard more than once over the last few days…

Yoon is not going to go down as Park Geun-hye did in 2017. He’s armed with legal knowledge and connections in the legal community. His legal team seems to be betting on the fact that he is a sitting president to stop any indictment while exploring legal strategies to rebut impeachment charges.
After Yoon today evaded arrest, his office announced it is filing criminal complaints against broadcasters MBC, SBS, JTBC, and a YouTuber for filming and broadcasting footage of Yoon's presidential compound. This "posed a threat to national security" and "disrupted social order," it says.

What has happened today in Seoul, and what will happen from now on?

Let me address a few questions:

Investigators and police seeking to arrest Yoon move past army and are now confronting the Presidential Security Service. Hopefully this is over soon without serious incident.

The investigators have not yet been able to enter the building’s interior. Even if the security personnel do not block their entry, there is still a possibility that Yoon may resist the arrest. It seems that more time will be needed before the arrest is completed.

The charge for Yoon is being the leader of an insurrection. Under South Korean criminal law, there are only two possible penalties for this offense: the death penalty or life imprisonment. This means that if Yoon is arrested today, there is a possibility he may never leave prison.
