I love this, Rebecca. I've often used Amos Oz's famous Order of the Teaspoon parable in such a context, but a concrete example like this is so valuable, and so vivid to those familiar with the tragedy that was the government's lack of response to Katrina. (And, similarly, to Hurricane Sandy.)

Write your MPs and MLAs to demand this clause be removed so we can continue having great libraries in Canada.

They have never been more important than now.

On Saturday, CBS hosted a televised townhall with Erika Kirk, the widow of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk, who was murdered in September.
All of which raises the question: Where’s the network townhall for Melissa Hortman?

I was devastated to hear about the loss of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer. Rob is a generational talent that used his voice to advocate for a better world. We live in a better country because of them. They will be missed.

I lived thru the end of public smoking. Early in my career I presented to city councils who were smoking, in front of audiences who were smoking.

Smoking in restaurants, airplanes, hospitals…

All of that seems insane now, but it was very controversial when we DID change it.

We CAN change things.
It’s crazy that people used to be able to just smoke cigarettes wherever they wanted

Extraordinary courage from Ahmed al Ahmed, a Muslim, 43-year-old father of two, who bravely risked his life to save his neighbors celebrating Hanukkah.

Praying for his full & speedy recovery.

And so deeply inspired by his example.

This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites.

The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.

I had the chance to have dinner with Rob and Michele twice. What I noticed about them is how they noticed people like me - staff. They were kind and funny and wonderful to talk to and full of exactly the kinds of stories you would hope they’d have - which they shared generously and unpretentiously.
MK and I cherish the time that we got to spend with Rob and Michele Reiner — we were devastated to learn of their passing.

Titans of the industry in every sense, the Reiners' legacy is secured through works of art that impacted generations.

May their memories be a blessing.

Rob Reiner was one of the key people behind the effort to go to court to overturn California's anti-marriage equality Proposition 8 when it passed in 2008.

Working with Chad Griffin, they founded the American Foundation for Equal Rights and got Ted Olson and David Boies to team up to fight Prop 8.
