To be explicit, we executed a German U-Boat commander who said he had to sink lifesaving gear / “inadvertently” kill survivors because it might give away his position, thereby potentially resulting in the loss of his submarine.

We executed multiple members of that crew.

Great thread which clearly and concisely explains quantitatively why Trump’s ideas are idiotic.
As a reminder, 50% of households PAY NO INCOME TAX!!

That means BELOW MEDIAN INCOME HOUSEHOLDS would see a TAX INCREASE averaging $12,600, and top 10% would see a tax cut of $140,000

That doesn’t sound fair, and it is not supposed to be fair

Republicans resent paying taxes to help poor people /5

The entire Right gets on my nerves more often than not

In a way that's hard to pinpoint down to one cause and isn't reducible to Trump (who's doing some reasonable things and some terrible things).

Other factors:

1. The rise of racism, esp. the IQ/eugenic variety. Always there, now *overt*.

Trump’s ramblings about how we can get rid of income taxes and replace them with tariffs lays bare the basis for the Republican platform

Income taxes raise $2.6 TRILLION a year

The top 10% of households pay 72% of this figure, or $1.8 TRILLION, or an average of $140,000 per household /1

And then one of the panelists said something utterly silly... I didn't shout, but you might be able to hear my eyeroll.

The fundamental thing to understand about this administration is the president is a grumpy retiree. He has no interest in working anymore. Which leads to him being pissed that he is getting asked a question, pissed he has to show up and work, the scheming viziers running the show, etc..

fukuyama once framed "getting to denmark," aka a european social democracy, as the obviously correct goal of national development. a decade into continent-wide stagnation, people are starting to remember why economic growth really matters actually
On the surface, Eurozone growth looks pretty decent all things considered. But when looking under the hood, the picture worsens considerably:

- Ireland (4% of the EZ) accounts for 40% of growth
- Spain (10%) accounts for 20%
- Half of the Eurozone is growing at 0.5% or below

Three things about the Witkoff tapes:

1) It appears Western intelligence services have decided to let Witkoff (and Trump) know they have recordings of their traitorous conversations w/Russia.

2) This Ukraine "deal" was all Witkoff's idea.

3) Congressional leaders should demand he be fired.
