English teacher, ex Head of English, Head of Year, Assistant Head, Attendance Lead. Used to be in an 'RI' school, now in a 'Good' school. Actually in a brilliant school.
Covid Inquiry. Can't find the bit where they confirm how many children Boris Johnson has. Anyone?

I never understand the calls to 'respect the Haka'. It's 15 massive lads declaring war and mimicking slitting your throats.
The only acceptable responses to the Haka are:

Whenever the BBC make a mistake, there's a pile on by people with a vested interest in dismantling the BBC. They always conflate 'The BBC' with 'BBC News'.
CBeebies and CBBC are worth the licence fee on their own, not to mention BBC Sounds, all the radio drama, comedy and local news radio..

F'king Andrew
So Andrew can still become King, but we just won't be allowed to call him King. Seems fair.

Programme pitch:
Taskmaster Champion of Champion series.
Programme pitch 2:
Strictly Come Dancing Champion of Champions series. Properly competitive not like the lame Christmas exhibition specials they have. Proper cutthroat, all-out dancing.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social if people say they don't want to be treated by people of different races, religions or cultures they should get their wish and not be treated. At all.
There should be a flag put on their NHS records and they should be refused future treatment.

At this point the NYT are just trolling Only Connect and the BBC aren't they?

It's incredible really.
The current govt. haven't exactly played a blinder, but when you remember* how atrocious, venal, incompetent and duplicitous the previous govts. were, this lot are steady and boring.

*for this read 'choose to remember/choose to forget...
Beth Rigby: "Keir Starmer has changed his top team more than I've had hot dinners."

In two years before Starmer we had 3 PMs, 4 Chancellors, 3 Foreign Secretaries, 5 Home Secretaries, 5 Education Secretaries, 5 Cabinet Secretaries, etc. - total 221 ministerial departures.

Maybe Beth is on a diet.

Don't all traitors get sent to castles in the Highlands?
Will Claudia Winkleman be there?
King Charles may be planning to send Prince Andrew to a castle in the Scottish Highlands, according to reports 👀

I've recently re-watched the last three Star Wars films.
My observations:
Not as good as I remembered in the cinema.
Some spectacular set pieces.
It looks amazing. Costumes, sets, locations.
There's some incredibly silly dialogue.
Some of the acting is very hammy. Like pantomime hammy.

It's self evident isn't it? That there was not a lot of energy or planning or urgency going into fighting covid and saving lives/ensuring the ongoing quality of lives for the general populace, *at the same time* that lots of energy and planning WAS going into the VIP lane and disaster capitalism.

The current govt. and Kier Starmer are - perhaps rightly - getting a lot of criticism at the moment, but I've watched 5 minutes of Boris Johnson at the covid inquiry and thank goodness we no longer have this shambles of a dishonest, venal and self serving disgrace in charge of the country.

Loads of love for Patricia Routledge around social media today. Obviously lauded for stage roles (never knew she won a Tony!) and Hyacinth Bucket, but she will forever be Kitty for me.
"We're spunky in Cheadle".
Magnificent.

I love stuff like this. And @dieworkwear.bsky.social is always worth reading.
Lovely.
Let me tell you a beautiful story about this couch. 🧵

Crikey! A proper throwback to a bygone era.
However, I can confirm that it's been BIBLICAL in Lancashire this afternoon!

My brother and his French wife lived in Paris for a while. While they were people watching they'd play a game call 'Collaborator or Resistance' in which they'd speculate which side of the German occupation citizens would be on.
I think you could start the same game while people watching in the US.

Second 'proper' day of teacher holidays yesterday and I just crashed and burned. End of year teacher fatigue is real. Spent the day sleeping and lazing. Feel so much better today. Needed a day of zoning out.

Football! Bloody hell!

First 'proper'day of the teacher holidays after a frenetic summer term and I've finally got 'round to getting these framed and up on the wall. Thanks again @tokyosexwhale.bsky.social

There ain't no fatigued like teacher 'first day of the holidays' fatigued.
Family gathering with teqcher sister, teacher brother, teacher sister in law and we've all been sat around looking gormless and dribbling. Weary, tired, exhausted.

Talk about The Wire, Sopranos, Game of Thrones all you want, but the greatest US television program ever made is Sesame Street. It's not even close. 50+ years of treating kids across class, ethnicity, religion not as mini-consumers...but as citizens with a stake in this world.
