I don’t remember if I broke this down when writing about postcolonialism in 4X games but I think that the issue is more than the encouragement of genocide and the limits of the possibility space. The actor / subject framing can only lead to broken representations. It’s upstream of the issues.

This is very interesting. I kind of had the opposite reaction to the game in that I felt the lack of the spinal cord of the tech tree resulted in parts where the momentum slowed dramatically, which felt very similar to dead turns to me.
