Dr. Amy & I are both Autistic diagnosticians w/in different disciplines, w/ different training & perspectives.

We are BOTH telling you: You're Autistic before you're diagnosed w/ ASD.

The condition that warrants diagnosis ALWAYS precedes a diagnosis. That's how a diagnosis fundamentally works!
I was autistic when I was the "weird kid" in elementary school. I was autistic when I was in grad school and professors told me autistic people can't get doctorates. I was autistic when the evaluator said I wasn't autistic. I was autistic when the 2nd evaluator said I was. Do you see the pattern?
The condition that prompts the diagnosis exists prior to the diagnosis. This is true of every single diagnosis; medical and psychiatric. I don't know what else to tell you.

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers have developed a nasal COVID-19 vaccine that BLOCKS transmission of the virus. This suggests vaccines delivered directly to the nose or mouth could play a CRITICAL role in containing the spread of respiratory infections. Phase I clinical trials HAVE BEEN APPROVED! 🧪🧵⬇️

I've applied to LPDP and Chevening so far... now to see if I can apply to Australia Awards again... I really wanna get into digital ethics especially given today's age but I'm not sure how much I can succeed, especially since I have to take a Master's on a full scholarship.

That "telepathy tapes" BS will "further the othering of autistic people in general, treating them like they have some kind of magical power, and that can get in the way of real acceptance and accommodations for autistics of all support needs." Colin Meloy:

Radical Resilience
I am suggesting a reclaiming and reframing of the word resilience.

I really need people to understand that disabled folks:

Exist across every other axis of oppression
Are underrepresented by DEI efforts almost across the board
Are the first to go in almost every situation of oppression
Are laughed off by people who consider themselves inclusive
So tired of seeing people tout that we should support Black/LGBT/women owned businesses in light of the DEI rollbacks, but no mention of disabled owned businesses.

Drop your fav disabled owned business below, or your own!

My fav is @bibicosplays.bsky.social! Her stuff is amazing! www.bibipins.com

Masking isn’t just a deliberate choice - it’s often an unconscious performance shaped by a world that demands we conform.

Autistic humans mask to survive, to navigate spaces not built for us.

It’s exhausting, but it’s also adaptive.

This is my latest book, "More You is more than okay, never less", which was written to not only validate Autistic and Neurodivergent experiences, but also normalise them for Neurotypicals, especially in educational settings. Free preview of the entire book at brettjcole.com/more-you ❤️

Becoming disabled is *the* most radicalizing thing that can happen to you because it happens atop whatever marginalizations you already have, amplifies them into a laser focus.

For cishet white men, it can be the first time they've *ever* experienced marginalization.

One of the biggest reasons I think deficit models for autism don't work is that it creates a binary between between those autistic people who can and autistic people who can't. When, for example, I think there are consistent patterns in how autistic people relate to language.

Would a picture of Vinod Chanda's uploading scene be considered NSFL? It's something that we should consider, and having it put up as one of Netflix's banners for Pantheon is concerning. I hope it's at least only visible to users above a certain age.

Autistic Unmasking isn't about doing whatever we want, whenever we want, to whoever we want.

Autsitic Unmasking isn't about being aggressive to people to make ourselves feel better.

Autistic Unmasking isn't about openly and gleefully violating the stated boundaries of others.

No, interrupting everyone and trauma dumping whenever you feel like it in an autistic space isn’t “unmasking”.

No, it isn’t harmful to you to respect people’s boundaries.

Dudes need to stop using autism as their excuse to harm people because of their own dysregulation.

People got so used to replies being filled with anger that they crave it. Balanced and calm debate can happen on a site like this but Twitter broke our brains into thinking if it wasn't 'spicy' it wasn't a debate.

I don't want tension or anger. I want adults in the room with respect and empathy.
