How would you like your own 5 yo to be treated, JD?
Q: A school district alleges ICE agents detained a 5 year old after preschool. Are you proud of how you're conducting this immigration crackdown?

JD VANCE: The 5 year old was not arrested. His dad was an illegal alien. So the story is that ICE detained a 5 year old -- what are they supposed to do?

I’m more concerned about the continued strong support from the Republicans. Obviously we all live in our preferred bubble
NEWS: A new NYT poll of Trump after year one:

— Only 32% said the country was better off
— Trump’s approval rating ticks down to 40%
— 57% said he’s focused on the wrong issues
— Dems up on generic ballot, 48% to 43%

Seriously, @people.com has been meeting the moment better than 90% of publications with direct reporting and crystal clear headlines.

This is a good way for the low-information voters who are usually detached from the news cycle to get turned around.

Totalitarianism? Fascism? Kleptocracy? Competitive authoritarianism?

Elements of any number of nondemocratic governing philosophies have arrived in the U.S.—but none has taken hold entirely, Marc Novicoff reports. He explores exactly what kind of government America has now:
How to Tell If Your President Is a Dictator
A year into Donald Trump’s second term, labeling his governing style remains an elusive goal.

There’s a storm brewing in Texas — and on social media. Sen. Ted Cruz is again being mocked online after being photographed on a flight away from Texas as it braces for an intense winter storm.

The incident reminded many of a viral moment years earlier:

The senator once dubbed “Flyin’ Ted” for a Cancún trip during a Texas storm was spotted en route to California as more harsh weather approaches. His office said it was a planned work trip.

Donald Trump is weakness masquerading as strength.

He has sold out American businesses — to China and to Russia.

It is code red in the United State of America.

🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!

ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

The TACO cycle:

Markets want to price in TACO. But TACO only works if Trump sees stocks tank.

So we get a loop: Trump does things → nothing happens (markets already priced in TACO) → that emboldens him to do more → until markets start to think he might not TACO → stocks fall → TACO is restored.

I'd just add I don't think the crisis is at all over, because Trump never sticks to agreements just because they're conventionally considered binding. The crisis will only be over when his regime is dislodged from Washington, if then.
If Europe found a way for him to save face and move on, great. But Carney's speech was still spoken and was still true. The bell has rung.
