Correction: Orban's Hungary is 17th worst decliner in the world with % of decline similar to Burkina Faso's (misread graph due to lack of ☕ & worst declining countries listed at bottom rather than top of graph 😬). Orban's Hungary remains top autocratising country of the last 25 years (see VDEM 2025)
Orban's Hungary third worst rule of law decliner in the world in 2024/25 & indeed the worst backsliding country in the past decade

EU's reaction: @ec.europa.eu rewarded Orban with €10.2bn in Dec 2023, no a single 💶 was clawed back/frozen & @consilium.europa.eu has kept doing nothing on Art 7 etc...

DHS officer shot at an unarmed black man during a traffic stop in DC, and the DC police officer said he was told by superiors not to mention the shooting in his incident report. The target's car was riddled with bullets. But the police report shows no gunfire. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...
Lawyers allege cover-up after fed shoots at man during D.C. traffic stop
Neither D.C. police nor the Department of Homeland Security have explained why the Homeland Security agent fired his weapon.

The cover up here, and the complicity of the mayor enabling these DHS thugs to operate in a dangerous and deadly fashion alongside the DC police, is shocking and unacceptable. There have to be consequences.

I need a button that opts me out of all AI unless I ask for something. No more fake artist mash-ups or fake movie trailers on YouTube. No more fake animal videos on Facebook. No more every software shoving AI into everything I try to do. I would pay good money for this.

The Walton family (who own Walmart) are worth over $400 billion, yet many of their employees are on SNAP.

Bezos is worth over $400 billion, many Amazon employees require SNAP.

The people who need help are not the problem.

It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.

I cannot tell you how many tech journalists at prominent media organizations do not understand this
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Independent investigative journalism that truly sits outside of the established system allows the media-political class itself to be scrutinised. How can we understand the world we live in if we won't ask difficult questions of those framing it?

Today, Mike Johnson will keep the House adjourned for the 84th day out of the last 96.

12 days of work in over 3 months.

With full pay and benefits.

The senate has been working, so this is not about the shutdown.

It is about avoiding a vote to release the Epstein files.

Someone want to tell Mikey here that 86% of all SNAP benefits go to households that include a child, an elderly person, or a person with disabilities?

Or that almost 40% of SNAP recipients are children?

And that Whites account for 37% of SNAP recipients?

I’m sure the downturn in the soybean market has really made a dent in Scott Bessent’s $521 million net worth.

He should go tour the Midwest and commiserate with all the other farmers who are suffering like him.
Bessent on American farmers being hurt by tariffs: "Martha, in case you don't know it, I'm actually a soybean farmer, so I have felt this pain too."

Recently retired CIA agents strongly suspect that the Kremlin has carried out a highly successful operation to penetrate and control the CIA. It would certainly be useful to know what CIA analysts felt that Putin sincerely wanted peace, because their professional competence should be questioned.
