All nonsense, of course, but if the point were to “give[] the minority a say” then the logic would require them to negotiate with Dems, not shut down the government and force them to swallow GOP priorities whole.

Kind of difficult to read this as anything other than priming the pump to justify an aggressive military response. Stay strong, stay peaceful, stay safe out there friends

Mike Johnson: "This hate America rally that they have coming up for October 18? The antifa crowd, the pro-Hamas crowd, and the Marxists, they're all gonna gather on the Mall. It is an outrageous gathering for outrageous purposes ... all this has gotta come to an end."

When prices were going up under Biden there was a constant deluge of news stories about it because the media did not like Biden and wanted him to lose. Under Trump there is not a constant deluge of news stories about coffee prices because they like Trump and want him to win
delrayser.bsky.social
everything is on fire these days, sure, but how is it that 50% of all news stories are not about how I just spent $20 on a bag of store brand coffee at fucking costco

I mean there's a reason they launched Coke Zero! Diet Coke tastes so different from regular that it became its own thing!
natecook.bsky.social
My suspicion is in the early days it didn't (still doesn't imo) taste as good (both relative to regular coke and today's formulation) so the added caffeine was to compensate

Ok cool. I was thinking probably next Friday anyway since that'll likely be right in the middle of my travel

There's a bigger question here of my work/romantic priorities but that's for my therapist
natecook.bsky.social
My question is: would it be doing too much to send him flowers while I'm at trial? Like it's *early* and I don't want to come on too strong but I want to let him know I'm very much invested in pursuing this despite being much less available than I'd prefer.

Ugh idk the timing of this all sucks

to get time with because of work even until now. And honestly, post-trial is likely to be tough too, with another trial in December. I suggested we could FaceTime, and he replied he'd "insist on it" (in a good way). So I figure he definitely wants to try and make it work despite it all 3/x

And leave today for like 2.5-3.5 weeks for trial itself (hence the squeeze in of a half-date last night). Dates went very well, we're definitely into each other and being flirty (but relatively chaste, so far). I'm hyper-aware that I'll be MIA through Oct, and have been difficult ... 2/x
natecook.bsky.social
Ok Bloomfs, need a vibe check: went on a date last Saturday (9/28), then a second date a week this past Sat, plus a half date yesterday (we squeezed in a drink and 35 min of chat in between me getting away from work and him going to his pickleball match). I've been crazy busy with pre-trial ... 1/x
natecook.bsky.social
I think it works not because they're taking a stand on healthcare per se, but because everyone is fed up with Trump right now more generally (although the timing is beneficial, as at least anecdotally I've heard everyone complain about premiums jumping during October open enrollment)

ChatGPT, draft me up a resumé for a guy who would write an OLC memo opining that the president should murder people.
Mr. Gaiser clerked for Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr. of the Supreme Court of the United States,
Judge Neomi Rao of the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and Judge Edith H.
Jones of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. In the private sector, Mr. Gaiser
worked at the law firms Jones Day, Boyden Gray, and Gibson Dunn. He graduated from the
University of Chicago Law School and Hillsdale College. He is also a husband and father.

Luv 2 assert that "[giving] the judges" certain powers tells us nothing about the scope of judicial power.
anthonymkreis.bsky.social
The weird snipe at @stevevladeck.bsky.social aside, Ilan misses the entire point that even the framers accepted the general idea of judicial oversight re: the president's deployment of military forces. Congress enacted a statutory regime. The president is bound by it. Courts have equitable powers.
