Every 30 days sounds ridiculous. Like, what changes are they going to find on a month-to-month basis? If someone voted in the last election, a month later that's still the same, and will be the same until the next election.
Earlier versions of the bill were even worse. One would have require proof of citizenship - either a passport or birth certificate - at the polling place in order to cast a ballot. But there’s more. As the Brennan Center for Justice explains, “the [House] bill would require photo ID to vote at the polls, providing a narrow list of acceptable IDs more restrictive that the voter ID laws in every state but Ohio.” The bill would no longer permit the use of most tribal IDs to vote and would require that states conduct voter purges every 30 days. Frequent purges of the voter rolls, routinely result in the removal of legitimate voters from the rolls as well. Of course those who are deceased or who are no longer state residents should be removed from voting lists. But purges are often conducted to purge “inactive voters” - those who have chosen not to vote in recent elections. This defeats the very purpose of mobilizing disaffected, non-participating citizens to vote. Imagine someone who registered to vote and voted fifteen years ago, but has chosen to sit out elections for the past decade. They live in the same home. Fearing that this year our very democracy is in peril, this citizen decides several days before Election Day that this year they will vote. Voter purges for “inactivity” would make such late-motivated voting for registered voters impossible.

Trump, in the middle of his latest unhinged Truth Social screed, claims that if Canada makes a trade deal with China, "the first thing China will do is terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup."
As everyone knows, the Country of Canada has treated the United States very unfairly for decades. Now, things are turning around for the U.S.A., and FAST! But imagine, Canada is building a massive bridge between Ontario and Michigan. They own both the Canada and the United States side and, of course, built it with virtually no U.S. content. President Barack Hussein Obama stupidly gave them a waiver so they could get around the BUY AMERICAN Act, and not use any American products, including our Steel. Now, the Canadian Government expects me, as President of the United States, to PERMIT them to just “take advantage of America!” What does the United States of America get — Absolutely NOTHING! Ontario won't even put U.S. spirits, beverages, and other alcoholic products, on their shelves, they are absolutely prohibited from doing so and now, on top of everything else, Prime Minister Carney wants to make a deal with China — which will eat Canada alive. We’ll just get the leftovers! I don't think so. The first thing China will do is terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup. The Tariffs Canada charges us for our Dairy products have, for many years, been unacceptable, putting our Farmers at great financial risk. I will not allow this bridge to open until the United States is fully compensated for everything we have given them, and also, importantly, Canada treats the United States with the Fairness and Respect that we deserve. We will start negotiations, IMMEDIATELY. With all that we have given them, we should own, perhaps, at least one half of this asset. The revenues generated because of the U.S. Market will be astronomical. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Jeff Bezos laid off all of the photographers at The Washington Post. Any good reporter will tell you that working closely with a photographer always, always, always makes the story better. When I was at the Post, I got to work with Carol Guzy and Dana Smith, and I’ll always be grateful.

These Long Island brothers came to the U.S. as kids. ICE deported them to a country they hardly know.
With no criminal records, they went for a routine check-in. Sent to El Salvador, they're desperate to return to their American lives.

A desperate plea sent to me by a Minneapolis resident who's been on the front lines since the beginning of the ICE occupation:
Just a quick update from the Twin Cities. (Please forgive the unsolicited message). THINGS ARE NOT BETTER IN MINNEAPOLIS. The media is mostly moving on, Trump is focused on other stuff, BUT NOTHING HAS CHANGED ON THE GROUND. More than 2,000 DHS thugs continue to roam the streets, abducting people 24/7, assaulting legal observers with impunity, and routinely denying 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights. Drones and helicopters are overhead every day. Hundreds and hundreds of terrified families have not left their homes since mid-December ... relying on the community to bring them food and help with rent and other necessities. (Those people are NOT violent drug cartel sex offending murderers, as DHS would tell you. Most are legal residents or citizens.) If anything, things have just become more stressful and intractable (think trench warfare as a suitable metaphor): The resistance is better organized and numerous, but DHS has become more clever and better at disguise... and the county sheriff's office is increasingly supporting them . Do not let anyone tell you that Homans (the new person in charge of the occupation) is making anything better. Do not let anyone tell you that 700 ICE agents leaving the city has made much of a difference; the remaining force (again, ~2,000) is still larger than the entire city's police force (which is legally unable to do anything). Please call your congressional reps ... especially if there is any chance the administration might listen to them.
