🇸🇪 Flight hour costs #Gripen

From Armed Forces, with a simple calcuation on average air wing costs 2017-2019. Perhaps including a larger overall picture is helpful. $5-20K / h.

U.S. often talk about F-35 at ~$35–44K/hr.

Remember folks, during the late 1950s and into the 1960s, Sweden had the fourth largest air force in the world (yes, the world) with about 1,000 modern fighter aircraft, both domestic and foreign types. We were also the first in the world to switch to an all-jet fleet of fighters.

When a Swedish minister gets this sassy, it means that they’re furious.

And rightly so. It’s amazing that the small ones have punched so far above their weight, but inexcusable that the bigger ones haven’t followed suit. There simply are capacity limits for the small ones.

Vintage Friday: The designation is a mouthful, but the Swedish Pansarvärnspjästerrängbil 9031 (Pvpjtgb 9031) was quite a nimble little vehicle. Mounting a 90 mm recoilless rifle and intended to slow down Soviet mechanized forces, this unit is an early one, as it lacks the much needed rollbar.
