Speaking of the biennale, apparently Jewel is debuting a new art exhibit in Venice to run concurrently with the art biennale next year. I mean, I don't know that I have much interest in this either, but I'm more likely to see this than to check out the US pavilion.

So the US chose its artist for the US pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale, with a Trump-allied arts group at the helm. I suspect I'll be skipping this pavilion next year.

Alma Allen could take the reins for the U.S. Pavilion at the 2026 Venice Biennale, opening next May — though no one is quite ready to say so out loud...

I've been limping around my house the last day or two--I took a pilates class that kicked my ass. I've been taking pilates now for about two months, & this is the first class that made me ache (in that good exercise-y kind of way). It's making me think, though, of the first time I took a 1/

Oh brother. Now companies are trying to butter up decision makers using half-baked AI slop. Just got a work email from a vendor, praising me to high heaven for my masters horror thesis, relating it to my day job, then asking me for work. The PS totally gave it away--said he was looking forward to 1/

Good. I vividly remember when Jones won his senatorial race. I was in Hong Kong right outside a Buddhist temple when the news broke, and his win felt like such a big deal.
Some great news this Sunday morning 👏🏼

The shots from the author photoshoot I just did are going to be delightful. There were costume changes, a butcher knife, a raw steak, a bloody human heart (not actual), and the photographer and I trying not to traumatize a family also having portraits taken at the same place.

If you're buying gifts for the holidays, maybe consider supporting artists, writers, creators. Gift someone a Patreon, commission an art piece, buy a book, purchase handmade jewelry, etc. Your support means everything.

2nd year in a row that I've been positioned in front of this store at this book festival... and twice now I've fantasized about using it as a horror setting. Guess it's the universe awakening me to evolve the plot bunny.

Or both.

Not for nothing, but if Danger Yam and his buddies want to deny women-dominated health field degrees professional status, we'll just have to take over more male- dominated fields that do have status. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For those of you who are self-pubbing, I ask you to kindly consider making your books available on Kobo (if you already aren't). I am on an Amazon boycott (since January), so I have a Kobo reader instead (which is superior to a Kindle). Amazon's DRM is a PITA to remove.

Love looking at it like this. It’s true. Artists are less delusional even though sometimes we feel MORE delusional. Have to remember that. There’s a strength to being unsure about things. An excerpt in The Guardian from George Saunders’ speech from the National Book Awards last night.

My country music-loving grandfather might have liked my dad more if he knew that his great-grandmother's second cousin was married to Dolly Parton's very distant cousin. My grandfather very likely didn't know someone in his own family was married to a distant cousin of Hank Williams, either.

Today's #sotd is a Prague brand I picked up when I was on vacay there a few weeks a go (details in alt text). It's very chocolate-vanilla forward... at first. It dries down to a sort of grimy, musky version of a gourmand. #perfumesky
