One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.

Why is it that a kid can go through school, get straight A's and just crush it, but lack athletic ability and then struggle to get a scholarship to college, whereas an athletic kid can do decent, have worse grades (still succeeding grades), but get a scholarship for their athletics?

Glad this is hurting him, but the ultimate solution to prices being raised in the US is to introduce a ratio tax wherein if the total compensation of the executives of a corporation exceed 20:1 of the average non-managerial employee, then the company faces a 100% tax on profit.
