That a party official would write such a statement is a sign of the creeping normalization of authoritarianism. Good for Pro Publica.
“I’m sure you’re aware of our connections with the Trump Administration,” the North Carolina Republican Party's communications director wrote in an email response to us. “I would strongly suggest dropping this story.”

We didn't. #ICYMI, read the story that he wanted dropped:

It's worth reading the whole interview in full. It basically verifies that the NYT has spent the past decade-plus doubling down on top-down narratives for coverage, getting more intense over time.

Sulzberg personally picked & chose whom the news apparatus would target and whom it would kiss up to.
In this in-depth interview Billie Jean Sweeney — a former editor at The New York Times — details how the paper shifted towards openly promoting anti-trans hatred, why this was directed from the very top, how some staff pushed back and the immense damage done by the NYT legitimizing bigotry.

It’s kind of incredible that he’s asking furries on a niche microblogging site to explain UHC instead of like, texting Elizabeth Warren for a reading list.
Mark Cuban is so annoying here asking random social media people for their universal healthcare plan instead of the bountiful amounts of policy papers and numerous proposals that exist on the subject

Sir Terry Pratchett is best understood as one of the most interesting, deeply ethical practical (I would say Pragmatist but I cede to actual experts) philosophers of the late 20th Century who just happened to work in deconstructed fantasy literature as his medium.

I am reading Robert Reich's COMING UP SHORT and being introduced to a piece of history I find physically painful.

Apparently, Roy Cohh, who mentored the current president and provided cover and services for Roger Stone and Rupert Murdoch was himself mentored by Joseph McCarthy.

Ahhh, I love it when Sheku Kanneh-Mason pops up in my feed!

He first got on my radar playing at Harry and Meghan's wedding. Quickly sought out his recordings, and listen to them whenever I'm stressed.

They also made my dog extremely happy.

And he has a bunch of equally talented siblings??? WOO!

My local is a Sinclair, but I still called in to let them know that...

*puts on pearls*
*clutches them*

After growing up on 60 Minutes and CBS Sunday Morning, it just hurts my heart that I can't trust CBS News anymore. I am praying that they find their way back.

(Sinclair sucks, still gotta try.)
Just as in the case of Jimmy Kimmel's suspension, a consumer backlash is now underway: CBS fans are hearing about the "60 Minutes" imbroglio and calling/emailing local CBS stations to register their concerns. "We have no real support," a reporter at one of those stations told me.

For @rollingstone.com, I wrote about the making of the myth of sheriff Buford Pusser, and how recent revelations that he was likely responsible for the 1967 murder of his wife, Pauline, undercuts that myth -- and begs for a new narrative about intimate partner violence and family trauma.
He Was a Legendary Sheriff Who Inspired a Movie. Did He Also Murder His Wife?
When Buford Pusser’s wife was killed, his grief turned into the movie ‘Walking Tall.’ But a new report from investigators suggests it was all a lie.
