After listening to a composer discuss how ai is transforming & destroying his industry, I was driven to create this piece. Embroidered on my hand-controlled #chainstitchembroidery machine w my interpretation of a famous woodcut of a Luddite destroying a jacquard loom.

It’s this simple. Do you think MPLS is doing well? Frey has had complete control. Current state of the city is on his shoulders. If we re-elect him, we cannot expect ANYTHING to change.
Jacob Frey has been Mayor for 8 years, and has had complete power and control over the City for the last 4 years. All City departments other than the legislative department report to him and he’s in charge of implementation of all policies and budgets.

Election Day is tomorrow! Please see our MFE voter guide! MFE is proud to have endorsed all of these pro-worker candidates who will champion working families across Minneapolis.

steve minn has said that he voted for donald trump three times, and his company lupe developmment gave safer hennepin $25k for them to send mailers calling for republicans to vote for jacob frey

the media not writing about the conservative DFL / republican alliance this year is a failure!
Very scary last minute costume idea: dressing up as Jacob Frey's third term.

I think this is too scary for my friends though, we all just wanna have a good time and I don't wanna bring the vibe down!

I used to work catering at a convention center and our largest annual event was an Amway dinner for 1,000 ppl and pulling it off was a crazy feat. Parties that large are rare bc the size is unmanageable and it's very impersonal for guests. So idk just another way this ballroom is dumb as hell.
the point of the ballroom obvs has nothing to do with aesthetics. it's to create an architectural structure to honor the patronage networks that currently dominate US politics. previous WH venues hosted maybe a couple of hundred people; this hosts nearly 1,000 rich donors.
Mostly unrelated, but Demon Dogs (shown in the photo above) is a really funny entity bc apparently the owner was well connected and he got the parcel for free and was stealing electricity from the CTA for 15+ years, hence why they didn't move to a new location when the station was remodeled.
When I was a kid most of the old red line stations in Chicago had small storefronts underneath them, usually bodegas but sometimes other stuff. It's unfortunate that the long overdue station remodels (making them ADA accessible) has led to the demise of those spaces.
In addition to "just give ppl housing ffs" I would love to see MNDOT and the city build small storefronts under overpasses and rent them out super cheap, like what exists in Japan (and once existed in Chicago under the el). Bring back the eyes on the street to desolate spaces!

Proposal, have the state setup a company (say MNRail) to purchase all the trackage in the state as well as the line from Sandstone to Superior.

Fund services to connect MSP w/ DUL, ROC, STC, Kato, etc and allow it to be used by open access operators. We can have a true rail system here if we try.
“I don’t understand why anybody, liberal or conservative, would be OK with ripping out almost new infrastructure,” Anoka Mayor Erik Skogquist said. “Sports stadiums last longer than this is lasting.”

With Northstar rail on fast track to closure, one city tries to pull the brakes
Anoka is worried about losing the train station as the northern suburb works to redevelop the area around it.

A hard truth is that the search for artificial general intelligence as a commercial tool is fundamentally a reproduction of slavery. Not because computers are people or anything so silly, but because of the impetus: To acquire the products of humanity without the need for a human to consent.

back in the summer this city felt safe. now I can't walk down the street without seeing a skeleton, pumpkin with a face, things of this nature. it's just sad to watch the city I love fall apart.
He's trying to make us think Superman but it's really giving Ed Grimly
And of course they subtly downplay the state murder of George Floyd, too, as if there wasn't an enormously important trial to determine that it was, legally, a murder.
Every day I learn a new reason to hate AI even more. This is so gross.
I think this old ep of Radiolab is the best explanation I've heard, reporting from an election where the votes are physically counted and reallocated as a TV event. I think it would be a lot easier to understand & support if we could literally just watch officials do it. radiolab.org/podcast/twea...
Tweak the Vote
On the eve of the midterm elections, we look at one tweak to voting that could help bring democracy back from the brink.

OMG the souvenir ice picks are WILD

Duggan examines the safe that vandals broke into and then jabbed with his 125 souvenir ice picks.
I don't know to what this refers, but reminds me of the (professionally made) sign I saw last year that said "Stop the Northeast Land Grab!" across from a small six unit apartment building that was under construction on a mostly single family block :P
When they put in flex posts a few years ago at 35th and Cedar literally all but 2 were gone in a matter of days, that's the worst retaining I've seen. I hope these ones fare better!
There's a local carshare service here that I use sometimes but mostly I find rentals too expensive. Earlier this summer I gave a friend some money so I could borrow their car for a week and go on a road trip. Worked out great for both of us!
Also most of the stuff I "need" a car for I don't really need. The options for meeting my needs that require biking or walking are a little more inconvenient but they force me to focus on my immediate physical community or to go without. That's fine!
I realized recently that I kind of accidentally ended up taking a liberalized Amish approach to using a car. I won't own my own car bc it pulls me away from community, but I will sometimes borrow a car from friends or accept rides bc that forces me to lean on community!
