Remember her name: Aliya Rahman

Her testimony is everything and it deserves to be heard, by everyone. Decide for yourself.

It’s powerful. It’s gut-wrenching. And no one should have to survive what she did.

ICE MUST GO‼️

If my caucus was any sort of indication, national Dems really need to wake the fuck up about what voters want them to do about ICE.

Another great Representative, @emmagreenman.bsky.social stopped in and responded to a question about data centers with, "Oh yeah, f*ck them!" She also had inspiring words about our strong democracy and community in MN ❤️

Just got the most heartwarming speech from @aurinmpls.bsky.social stumping for Senator Mohamed and God, we're so lucky to have these 2 amazing people representing us.

Duh! I'm also strongly supporting @zaynabmmohamed.bsky.social and Commissioner Conley!

I'll post some updates for my fellow lovers of hyper-local politics, but probably not a lot bc this school's wifi is awful.

I'm here at my Mpls Precinct Caucus. Proud to support @repilhan.bsky.social and @christin612.bsky.social and @ltgovflanagan.mn.gov and I don't really know who else bc my brain has been elsewhere the last few months. Not too excited about our Governor prospects.

You’re describing an emergency. The world is also watching you and waiting for you to do something.

Are you going to establish an eviction moratorium? Rent is due today.
They’re taking kids from Minnesota and sending them to detention camps. They’re shooting American citizens in the street and locking investigators out of the crime scenes. The world is watching what happens next.
Hundreds of people spelled out the distress signal "SOS" on Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis on Friday, Jan. 30.

I’m *extremely concerned* about the way folks are reforming their image of the cops in light of everything that’s happening, even though we only have a handful examples of them disagreeing with ICE, while still being responsible themselves for the murders of Black and brown people across the country

I try not to be this person all the time, but I'm gonna be this person this time.

This is what it's like to be not white, to be poor, to be on the receiving end of these very American activities in other countries.

I do need white folks to listen, if this is who you need to hear it from. ⤵️
It’s so hard to describe what this is like to people who aren’t here. The ICE/BCP occupation seeps into everything. It’s not just the horror of the big stuff. It’s the little stuff, too: helicopters all night, vigilance during every trip out of the house, guilt at having any downtime at all.
I've personally had barely any ICE encounters. I've done patrolling when I can. And my body is just yelling at me that it's wrecked.

Even doing a little bit is fucking taxing. Everyone doing more is a superhero, and I don't think folks who haven't been involved in an occupation understand the toll.

After the 18 day 4th precinct occupation when Jamar Clark was killed, I got really sick and didn’t bounce back for months, even years. It absolutely contributed to my slide into complete disablement by chronic illness.

Saying this to Minnesotans who might need to start pacing differently.

Sharing a local school fundraiser for students and families that have had to be in hiding for weeks. We have a robust system for getting mutual aid to families in need.

Please help.

Not trying to stoke division, but underline a lesson. Remember the high-decibel whining over the years about the Minneapolis City Council expressing solidarity with various oppressed people? ”Stay in your lane!” Remember how sustaining this outside support feels right now as we face the gun barrels.
The march is now passing the Chicago city hall / Cook County hall building. The chant goes up,

"Minnesota don't you fear, we, the people, are right here"

But watching some of our elected officials take turns speaking without corresponding action has made one thing painfully clear: the community is doing the work, and it is not being matched by those elected to serve it.

I’m going to keep hammering this point: the excesses of ICE we see now are entirely contiguous with our system of policing more broadly, and the reason that almost no politician wants to threaten real consequences for ICE agents is because it opens the door to making the same demands of the cops

The "ICE is using military tactics suited for a warzone, not for American streets" rhetoric kinda misses the point that warzones are not naturally occuring. The US military creates war zones from residential neighborhoods and the tactics are not more justifiable just because it's overseas

As a Minneapolis local I am begging you NOT to donate to the Star Tribune. They are a mouthpiece for police, corporations, and conservatives who repeat those voices unquestioningly.
2/ lots of people on here decry paywalls and insist they’d pay something if only there was a lower price point. Ok, donate to their news fund. Their reporting (and @mprnews.org) is undergirding much of what you read anywhere www.startribunecompany.com/donate/

To those who condone this and say “they should have just complied,” that mindset is the harm. You are asking people to trust a system that is actively targeting them and criminalizing their existence. Compliance has never been a shield against injustice; it has only made cruelty easier to carry out.
