I had a Black judge say to me in an interview(no eye contact), “You just want this job because it pays more than your current one.” I didn’t know how to respond. It was one of my first professional interviews. I did need more money. I was graduating with my master and trying to build a life/career.
Nobody walks into an interview begging, “Hire me because I’m Black.” We walk in saying, hire me, I’m qualified. Hire me, my degree cost the same as everyone else’s. Hire me, I earned this and I need a job just like anyone else.
Hire me, don’t discriminate against me.
