The Economist says that corporations would have a “strong incentive” to deploy this technology when looking at applicants.

This tax season has been pretty brutal, so I bought myself some gifts as a reward for surviving.

The timing feels especially critical: this week the Trump administration moved to gut permanent housing programs nationwide. As the safety net is torn apart and the affordability crisis deepens, this report shows what's at stake for millions of people.

Here's how the segment is being described:

For all that people like Elon talk about a Woke Mind Virus, people should actually be looking at rightward radicalization of formerly non-partisan people who used to hold respect across the political spectrum. Call it the Anti-Woke Mind Virus.

Here I am coming at you with a brand new #LastFourFriday with a pair of really solid films and a pair of mediocre films. At least none of them were A House of Dynamite.

My doctor's office called me and had to reschedule my upcoming physical. The earliest availability is January 2027. What are we even doing here?

My wife's Auntie Lois (may her memory be a blessing) was actually her dad's cousin. This is *extremely normal*. People need to calm down.
Wait, are people really upset that Mamdani spoke about his “aunt,” and it was actually his father’s cousin and not his father’s sibling?

Because that is an extremely normal thing a lot of cultures do. Including a lot of large Jewish families!
In a bit of a tense moment, one of the La Mega co-hosts presses Mamdani on why he "lied" about his "aunt" having been scared to ride the subway after 9/11 while wearing a hijab.

Mamdani says it was "not a lie" because he refers to his father's cousin as his "aunt."

#LastFourFriday is back to remind us all that movies are good, and that a back to back duo of First Blood and Hard Boiled is a next level action double feature. Honestly, knowing me, it's a bit surprising that La Strada is the lowest rated here, but that's why we actually watch the movies.

Breathless. Mentioning this because I have the DVD/blu ray combo release Criterion put out, which feels like it should be rare, but I've never checked

This is good reporting on the disaster in Alaska if you're looking for a reliable summary.

This is a bigger disaster than I think most are realizing. 1500 people have been displaced by the flooding with an exceptionally complicated response and recovery.

October's donation is to @evlovesnyc.bsky.social because I saw @prisonculture.bsky.social is starting a fundraiser for it. I love when Bluesky brings my attention to an organization I didn't know exist.
I promised myself that I would try to donate $100 to charity every month because the election has me feeling totally helpless. I'm gonna try to hold myself accountable. This month I donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank. I'm open to suggestions for worthwhile charities for future months.

I was talking with a friend last night about A House of Dynamite, the new Kathryn Bigelow film about the idea of a rogue nuke being launched at Chicago. And she brought up the RT score in the 80s and the Metacritic score at 80, and did we all watch the same movie? I hated that movie so vigorously!

I watched a new movie called The Plague tonight. It's a movie about bullying among middle school-aged boys. I don't think I've ever been triggered by a piece of media before, but this did a number on me.
