This is a very under-appreciated bit in the decline in journalism over the past few decades. I was young & mostly OK with just scraping by when I started at a newspaper. But several years later, spending each day of the final 2 years wondering if my key card was going to work really wears on you.
If you're ever wondered why journalists seem so out of touch most of the time it's because in order to establish yourself you need to either come from money, marry into money, or be OK with abject poverty and daily financial panic

That third thing is unsustainable long-term

For me, it’s got to be @realgdt.bsky.social doing a 250 million dollar adaptation of “At the Mountains of Madness”. I need my full-on Cthulhu mythos epic!
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

Once again, Bards/Red Mages are proven to be OP.
As a Ranger main, this wounds me deeply.
Looks like LLMs are *very* vulnerable to attack via poetic allusion: "curated poetic prompts yielded high attack-success rates (ASR), with some providers exceeding 90% ..."

Combined with JLU, this is still the best superhero show (and in the top five cartoons) ever. Tons of great episodes, including, so much amazing writing by the maestro, Dwayne McDuffie. Now I want to go watch “Wake the Dead”, “Once and Future Thing” and “Double Date” again.
Happy 24th Anniversary to Justice League, the animated series that changed so much for so many of us! Forever grateful to the show & all its fans! 💛❤️💙

If I had explain American history in one sentence, I could do worse than "John Brown was hung for treason, but Robert E. Lee was not."
John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry began on this day in 1859.

Facebook having the option to turn it into your own personal share of The Matrix with a constant stream of soothing AI slop makes me happier than ever to have kicked that app into the fucking river and never looked back.
Mark Zuckerberg is introducing a feed that's just 100% AI slop. No pesky creativity from real people to get in the way. Eat up little piggies

Continuing my own tradition of giving Dr. Hunter S Thompson’s post 9/11 column another reading. Barely a day afterwards, he was able to accurately predict the next 20+ years of America. It’s scary & sad, but worth reading to see folks were warning about this from jump proxy.espn.com/espn/page2/s...
Thompson: Fear & Loathing in America
Hunter S. Thompson predicts a 'guerilla warfare on a global scale' between the United States and the merciless fanatics responsible for the four plane crashes Tuesday.

Passing isn't a goal, it's something you should resent with every fiber of your being, it is you trying to shape yourself into something you know you are not in the hope you won't be beaten to death the next time you try to leave your house. It is just another closet to suffocate yourself in.

Again, the enemy is the Aristocracy, it reconfigures itself to fit each era, and you must learn to hate it as much as it hates you.
Personally, I find it more concerning that the Commissioner of the NYPD is the daughter of a multimillionaire corporate CEO than that the mayoral candidate didn’t immediately recognize that CEO.
I have to say, I don't think "recognizing incredibly wealthy individuals" is a skill that I value highly among civil servants

I am going to sit here, dog on my lap, listening to the thunderstorm outside and get caught up on my comic book reading backlog. Starting with Sentinels #5.

I like the “Special Thanks” part in Marvel movies/TV credits where they include comic creators who came up with the characters & plot points used. In Ironheart, it’s odd they exuded Brian K. Vaughan & Eric Powell (writer & inker) of the original Hood series out, but did list Kyle Hotz, the penciller

I cancelled my subscription with quickness last year, so I KNOW how it happened, but it still boggles my mind that the Washington fucking Post has a lower circulation now than the mid-sized daily paper I worked for in the early 2000s.

This is one of the best ideas I’ve heard for wrenching newspapers back from the abyss they’ve been sliding deeper into for the past 20+ years. It would be so much cheaper than pissing away tens of millions of dollars trying to find some magical podcaster(s) to connect with “swing” voters.
Unironically they should buy up the domains for about 60 defunct local newspapers in swing states. Hire two reporters to write almost exclusively about highschool sports and new restaurants opening with every 10th article about how the local GOP is screwing over people.
NEWS:

Democratic mega-donors are debating plans to spend tens of millions of dollars on a range of influencer plans to "find the liberal Rogan."

We've got pitch decks, investor meetings, and internal docs.

One Democrat has a spreadsheet of 26 different proposals.
