tolkien was a person, like any other. and assigning him to one "side" of the political spectrum or the other will never get to the heart of why fascists are drawn to his work.

it's not co-opting when the framework is there. put your attachment to middle-earth aside and fight fascism in all forms.

It’s also very fucking annoying given that I literally drag myself out of bed anyway. Yeah I’m slow but it’s still better than doing nothing at all, and for me that’s *real* progress. It’s about those little unnoticeable steps. But still. I mean. Fuck off? We're good.

i don’t believe in lore dick measuring contests or excluding people who are getting into tolkien and learning but you do run into some amount of “i haven’t read the book but you have to take what i think about it seriously otherwise you’re mean” around adaptation fan spaces which is like. well, no!

because yeah we naturally work with sacrifices - two or more principles in contrast, and in the best-case scenario both are diminished in a context where the dominance of one value, no matter how benign, means the annihilation of the other
