Ocean, carbon cycling, and climate: yesterday, today, and tomorrow
Trash in our cities is one of the easiest and most identifiable upgrades we can do. Here we have citizens from “Philthadelphia” taking it on DIY style (we shouldn’t have to do this, people)

ps also build protected bike lanes in cities!
Neighbors Matt Barber, Anthony Masucci, and Frederick Stahl have taken responsibility for their South Philly block’s cleanliness into their own hands.

When brooms weren’t enough to keep their kids safe from broken glass and debris, they got ingenious with it.

There’s very little I like about my rental car, but it plays the first couple notes of Hall and Oates’ “I can’t go for that” when you start and stop it and I love it

Any 🌊 🧪 peeps know about NSF panel delays ?
Does anyone know what's happening with NSF oceanography related panels? I think the physical oceanography one is usually early November; presumably it's been cancelled or delayed due to the shutdown. Is there any vague schedule now that they're open again? 🌊

🚨Out today, acidification of the California Current🚨
Using corals and models we show regionally amplified acidification, due to the combo of CO2 uptake and remineralisation. This highlights potential risks to productive upwelling zones in an acidifying ocean 🌊🧪⚒️📈

man, there's so much crap going on in the universe, but I swear the thing that's annoying me the most is that Adobe Acrobat is apparently resetting my preferences to "Page Display: Single-page view" and this might be my joker moment

Wow just wow, I hope this is real—what a cool story about a weird restaurant name (Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse)
I LEARNED THE ANSWER TO THIS

Chris's Steakhouse was a New Orleans landmark

Chris Matulich periodically got bored, sold it, waited for the new owner to fail, and bought it back cheap

The sale conditions: Can't move it, can't change the name

He did this six times

Then he sold it to Ruth Fertel
what did ruth mean when she said her steakhouse was "chris"

I'm really interested in the idea that periodically (?) being super cold can help you live healthier longer. Probably because I grew up surfing New Jersey winters (in very poorly insulated '90s wetsuits).
