Bari Weiss nurtured the anti-vaxx rhetoric that directly contributed to 6 million children developing Long Covid. Her rise to head of CBS News is deeply disturbing. The Free Press promotes the most toxic neoliberal, climate denying, MAGA adjacent trash you can find.

If this is true, there are going to be so many kids that will end up leaving the public education system, which undoubtedly is the whole point.

And it's not going to be a blue vs red state issue. I say this as an Oregonian who fought hard to get special education services for their child.

There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

America’s children deserve better than this.

“YOU hit HER.”

CHICAGO - Trump’s ICE goons ram into a passing car after snatching someone, then brutally drag the female driver of the car they hit out of her car with guns drawn and arrest her too. (Her brother says she’s a citizen)

“Bubbles flew in the air as the groom, his best man (his son, dressed as Eric Cartman from South Park), the bride and maid of honor (the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters) walked down the red carpet.”

What joyful scene! Congratulations to the newlyweds!

This week, MAGA figures claimed Kristi Noem "stared down" violent antifa protesters in Portland. Turns out they were talking mostly about a guy in a chicken suit.

This episode opens a window into how MAGA propaganda works and MSM failure to handle it. 1/

MAGA Implodes over Kristi Noem’s “Stare Down” with Man in Chicken Suit
A good New York Times piece on Portland nevertheless demonstrates how the conventions of objective reporting fail to accurately capture the bad faith driving pro-Trump propaganda.

World Naked Bike Ride organizers and other local groups are getting on bikes in the buff to protest the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in South Portland. The demonstration is planned for Sunday Oct 12 at 2:30 pm; now we know the starting spot is Oregon Convention Center Plaza.

Another reason to mask at protests, aside from COVID safety and protection from doxxing, is that a lot of responsible documenters don't want to publish protesters' faces (esp without their consent) right now. Your face being in a shot may prevent people from sharing a worthwhile image publicly.

Joining Portland's frog, unicorn and raccoon at tonight's protest are a polar bear, panda, giraffe, dinosaur, peacock, a second unicorn and an axolotl.

I can only imagine what it will look like by Halloween.

I know that they’re surgicals, but can we get a West Coast Health Alliance to implement a healthcare masking season for CA, OR and WA?

USA: Mask rules are returning to Bay Area health care settings from Nov 1 as COVID, flu, and RSV cases rise.

Counties including Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Sonoma, Napa, San Mateo, and Santa Cruz will require masks for workers, and in some cases patients and visitors, through spring.

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

This article has a lot more important problems so I feel stupid saying this…but umm…the Mercury wrote and published the first major article about the DSA councilors back in June. Of course it isn’t the local reporting linked or mentioned here.

It's too bad we didn't elect a mayor capable of rising to the moment Portland is likely to find itself in. 🙄 I truly cannot comprehend why, after years of Ted Wheeler, Portland was like "yeah! how about another white guy!" when we had better options to choose from.

Wilson will be of no help here.
