Most right wing justifications of Renee Good's murder have nothing to do with an attempt to show she was putting the murderer in danger. They're explicitly about a gendered sense of entitlement, some sense that she's condescending to them by existing and not grovelling.
Q: "Do you believe that deadly force was necessary?"

Trump: "It was highly disrespectful of law enforcement. The woman and her friend were highly disrespectful of law enforcement…Law enforcement should not be in a position where they have to put up with this stuff."

I was idly scrolling during an after school tutoring session today. There were only five kids, mostly doing their own thing, but I think one of them noticed me tear up when i came across this video. Dorky Minnesota kids, wearing T-shirts in the winter, being themselves and doing the right thing.
Students at Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis are walking out to protest ICE days after a clash between U.S. Border Patrol agents and protesters at the school.

Things are shifting. A guy I met in grad school and friended on FB about 13 years ago, who I have not heard from since then and who is dead silent on social media, just posted RATM lyrics.

Like those before it, that insane, vile DHS statement about the Minneapolis shooting isn't about covering anything up. It's performative lying.

They aren't trying to persuade anyone that their agents did nothing wrong. They're trying to project that their agents can get away with anything.

Dems are weak and stupid, yes, but we don't need to endlessly quote the latest Axios gossip story interviewing an anonymous centrist dem to know that.

it’s stupid to not use ai just because it can induce psychosis and generate child porn. it’s like saying you’re hungry when there’s a hot dog on the ground outside that induces psychosis and generates child porn

I don't have kids so I have no judgment for new parents looking to reduce the labor of childcare but this seems like one of the easier ones

Senator, your Somali constituents are being terrorized by right wing psychopaths. This can wait.
I visited Wild State Cider in Duluth to highlight why the hemp ban doesn't work — threatening 2,700 MN jobs and hurting farmers and small businesses across our state. I’m working across the aisle to support responsible hemp businesses that strengthen our economy.

What the fuck is going on with the Minnesotan senators making no statements about the terror campaign being inflicted on their own state?

Vanilla Ice performed at Mar A Lago with ninja turtles and Mamdani was sworn in at an abandoned subway station. New horseshoe theory of politics: everything ultimately converges around Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze.
January 1, 2026 at 3:56 PM
A big part of what made Mamdani resonate in NYC and other urban areas is he had the audacity to actually depict urban life for the joyous, mutually beneficial experience it is when done right.
Another good practice for the New Year would be for all the non-fascists in America who want to opine about politics to really begin believing that urban America is Real America & that its denizens are The Authentic People. Get some self-respect & drop the volkish nationalist view that they're not
And I think liberals should stop taking the bait and ceding ground on immigration.

Immigration is good. Multiculturalism is good. Free trade is good. Stop being embarrassed to say so.

Some non negligible sector of democrats doesn't want to reckon with the work of finding candidates who don't completely suck and find it psychologically comforting to imagine that we won't even be able to put up candidates. It's like canceling plans with family members you don't want to see.
It's kinda funny how every third political post on has some variation of "oh so you think there's going to be elections how cute" in the replies while the daily news is of Republicans getting boatraced in elections, manufacturing the reality you desire to be outraged about isn't just a rw phenomenon

The fact the Menswear Guy is actively dunking on the Bsky user base now instead of just cross-posting the threads where he does that to Twitter users should terrify all of us.
true. that's bc you've allowed your sense of style to be narrowly defined by fashion brands, instead of thinking about it in terms of cultural history. over the course of the 20th century, many groups have dressed well, even if they didn't conform to fashion trends or bourgeois respectability

A singer known for making jokes smoking a cigarette the way Ariel from Little Mermaid would is definitely something to take seriously
With more actors, pop stars and other celebrities spotted unapologetically smoking, the cultural taboo against it shows signs of ebbing. That worries antismoking advocates. 🔗 on.wsj.com/49om2X4

The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

I don't know if I've ever laughed harder in a theater than in Hot Fuzz where Nicholas Angel is on his first fun run in his new town and the music abruptly becomes sinister when Skinner rolls up next to him and releases like five terrible rapid fire puns
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

I have mixed feelings about The Boys but one thing it does incredibly well is immediately immerse you in a world where the banality of evil rules, and it does so by showing Jimmy Fallon just being himself and giving softball interviews to some of the worst villains on earth
Jimmy Fallon: "And do you use ChatGPT when raising your baby?"

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."
