I think those changes are largely generationally siloed and the audience at Kings protests are decidedly Gen z and older. at my kings protest the sign up line for PSL was empty (full of communist sloganeering) and dsa was packed (emphasized real, achievable political goals). was pretty striking!

folks Gen x or older have a full on immune response to mentions of socialism so it’s easier to bring those people onboard by emphasizing shared political goals and values rather than ideology. apoliticals too usually have residual attachments to capitalism. meet people where they are!

You’d know better than I, but what then is the role of the Marxist? To wait until history aligns us with our class interests and banishes false consciousness? If it is to organize and make class salient wouldn’t a theory of the individual be necessary?

it’s a little coarse but I mean it as a distinction between Marxist and liberal modes of thought - materialism vs idealism. the moral structures underpinning most of the left/liberal social sphere are predominantly idealistic.

not at all! these kinds of seismic transformations are always assembled out of a myriad of causes, and I believe material factors are predominant. but structures of feeling play a role here and the right made incredible gains by becoming a container for disorganized discontent

social media isn’t real life, it’s just where people spend the majority of their free time, do most of their socializing, where they generate wealth, build influence, learn about the world around them and themselves, etc etc
