Sometimes you just gotta let people know.

Listen to me now. Believe me later on.
White supremacy has plenty of use for non-White people willing to carry its water. But it will never, ever let you forget that you are not actually White.

I wonder how he decides which words should be capitalized. Because it doesn't seem quite random enough.

I actually don't think it's that strange. Or at least it's not unusual. The clearest example is the multitude of industries that surround college sports.

But whether consciously or subconsciously, many people understand that universities help shape society and react accordingly.
laurasaurus.bsky.social
It is frankly strange to be this obsessed with college if you no longer attend one and do not work in education. More people in legacy media need to be told that.

And who is the author of this op-ed? The billionaire CEO of an asset management firm who helped author the compact.

Why are you watching what you want to watch instead of the thing that I want you to watch?

Dolly Parton has been a good person all her life. She does so many kind things for people. Compare that to someone like JK Rowling who wakes up every day and decides to be an absolute asshole.

From one UNC defensive assistant: "What we've done to these kids is fucked up."

Belichick's communication with his staff in the past two weeks has been described as "weird" and "distant" by multiple members of UNC's coaching staff. Multiple coaches were unable to get hold of him during UNC's bye week

Per sources: Bill Belichick has discussed buyout options with North Carolina’s hierarchy. Belichick has signaled a willingness to trigger his own $1 million buyout if he can find a soft landing with another team or in media

Nobody is watching more Tar Heels and Longhorns football--and thoroughly enjoying it--this year than Mack Brown.

These are the most Chicago looking Texans I have ever seen.
edsbs.bsky.social
These guys are so vulnerable to defecting to Chicago

Don’t think these Texas National Guard guys are going to be chasing any immigrants around Chicago on foot

And, of course, there's the fact that Weiss changed the lyrics. The line from Hamilton is "Immigrants. WE get the job done." It's inclusionary. By changing it to "they" Weiss reinforced the perpetual othering that so many Americans of Asian descent constantly have to deal with.

Nagasu IS the daughter of immigrants. But she was born and raised in California. And I personally have a hard time believing that a White figure skater named Noemi Monet who was a first gen American with French parents would have made Weiss think of immigrants.
omagus.bsky.social
This isn't the main focus here but it's also worth considering what Bari Weiss means when she says "American." Because I remember when, at the 2018 Winter Olympics, Mirai Nagasu became the first American woman to land a triple axel and Weiss tweeted "Immigrants. They get the job done."

I kind of can’t believe this Bari Weiss quote is even real, and yet www.nytimes.com/2025/10/06/b...
“I know that there are some people in this room who don’t believe that my marriage should have been legal … and that’s ok. Because we’re all Americans who want lower taxes.”

In my anecdotal experience, people who struggle with having imposter syndrome tend to be far more qualified than people who don't.
oliviamesser.bsky.social
This CBS News situation is really helping my imposter syndrome about being an editor in chief. I spent MONTHS agonizing over whether or not I was ready to helm a tiny newsroom and interviewing other EICs about what they wish they’d known — and golly, she has a lot less reporting experience than I do

The truly disturbing part is Purchasing the Free Press for 150 million dollars

Because what specific thing in the possession of Bari Weiss is worth 150 Million dollars????

Do you remember this video?

She was trying to say "chile." But she had obviously never been around Black women who said it in real life and only knew about it from seeing it written online.
omagus.bsky.social
Social media in general, but Twitter specifically, really did a number on in-group conversations and colloquialisms.

I remember once seeing a video posted by a not Black woman where she spoke with a Blaccent and kept peppering her speech with the word "chili."
tressiemcphd.bsky.social
There was this time on Twitter — maybe around 2018 or so — when someone started promoting the idea that they had decoded “Bless your heart” as “fuck you” and it was great for a Southerner to watch the false confidence spread throughout whole swaths of people.
dmskywalker.bsky.social
Hey fuck you too.

That “bless your heart shit” stopped meaning anything when my MAGA aunt used in in reference to anything progressive or gay she dint like.

Fucking dem loser.
omagus.bsky.social
I am very amused that this person decided that "bless your heart" stopped meaning anything when THEY decided it did.

Since the Ezra & Ta-Nehisi discussion is still happening: the main point I think most are missing is that Klein is saying the role of the journalist-intellectual is to do strategic politics, whereas Coates says the role of the journalist-intellectual is to tell the truth
omagus.bsky.social
That doesn't mean that there's no place for activism, of course. As Coates points out, someone like him shouldn't be a politician and shouldn't think like a political operative. His role is to observe and point out when those politicians (inevitably) fall short, so that we can push towards progress.
