a far right party getting a portion of the vote is different than one that has the will and support to dismantle the institutions if state and put troops in the street

you can’t just lump the european right in with the trump republicans, they are not the same and the system of gov is different too

my point is not that euro far right parties wouldn’t love to do this, it’s that they would be unable do to the civic virtue of the people, as well as their self-interested

Call me naive but I think the people of this country broadly do care about freedom and democracy, even though they’re still people, with the short attention spans and general malleability that people always have, and I think appealing to those better angels is the path out
