“Of course Starmer can’t call out Trump. That would be idiotic and unstatesmanlike”

Starmer calls out Trump over Greenland.

“You see, that’s Starmer being statesmanlike.”

Jeez. Greenland is in the NATO alliance. How hard can this be?

'Liangping Ding, a metascientist working at the University of Manchester, told Research Professional News that AI has the potential to replace human participants in some research activities.' 1/3
AI ‘could replace humans’ in some social science surveys.

Metascientist says AI responses are similar enough to humans and could offer productivity gains.

WH sources say Venezuela's opposition leader committed the "ultimate sin": She accepted the Nobel Peace prize.

“If she had turned it down and said, ‘I can’t accept it because it’s Donald Trump’s,’ she’d be the president of Venezuela today,” one said.

The idea that Rubio is in it to take down Cuba, Miller is in it for the aspects of war that would allow him more latitude to terrorize citizens at home, and Hegseth is in it for the masculinity bonus, while persuading Trump with oil, appeals to me and accounts for most of this. Also Trump's pique.

We can debate what the probabilities are on these things. The confidence intervals are surely wide. But in actual democracies, the probabilities are asymptotically approaching zero. Even the most optimistic scenarios do not put us in that place now, & anyone who says they do is lying to themselves.

👇🎯 Once again, I ask, in good faith & without trying to be overly alarmist, what anyone has seen in the last year to make them believe that the 2026/28 elections will be free, fair, & democratic by any traditional meaning of the words?

Trump sees dollar signs with Venezuelan oil, has designs on other countries, and clearly sees himself as some kind of emperor of the world. I don’t think he has plans to leave in 2028. And he’s showing he’ll use the military however he wants

This part in particular struck me as worrisome. A “veteran loyalist activist in Ballymena in his 60s” is no one’s idea of an out of touch liberal, and even he’s scared by the direction of public sentiment. And it’s driven by social media which spreads hate for profit, with no seeming end in sight

Da. Just imagine if we tried to grab Zelensky...
What a great day for Vladimir Putin! I can picture him in the Kremlin, watching the EU & the UK play dumb while Trump trashes Int. Law, their media reporting Maduro's abduction as an 'arrest'. I bet he's thinking: Should I also detain Zelensky and subject him to Russian justice?

No FIFA Peace Prize winner has ever done this before

You don’t have to caveat your condemnation of blatant disregard for international law with your negative opinion about Maduro. Indeed, it’s better if you don’t.
