My Filipino American History Month display at my library. It’s my honor each year to showcase & uplift Filipino stories. Just 5 years ago, I didn’t have enough books to even put up a display, but now my display overflows. I marvel at how far we’ve come. And yet there’s always room for more. #booksky

You’re talking about the Venezuelan leader Maria Machado. This book is by the Filipino journalist who won the award.

I don’t think you’re being combative. I share your frustration. Having this conversation at all is a step in the right direction. A small one, but a step none the less.

I think the public library will be a huge resource to combat this. It’s not just free books, mine also offers free computer classes, access to health educators and housing subsidies. The library is so much more today than we remember. And it’s much needed space in today’s society.

I was also a journalism major. I was in college when 9-11 happened. I remember how incredibly difficult that time was. I still write today too.
