This is unironically why I stopped streaming Wild Beyond the Witchlight because not explaining the plan till mentioning characters I should have known till half way and new plot elements I did not plan for when running chapter by chapter suck so bad
Remember: big published adventures are written with a *reader* in mind, not a DM trying to run the thing. This means hiding surprising twists for later, long descriptive texts, and a largely linear story that makes sense to read from start to finish. Don't copy that style for your own prep.
One of the pitfalls I ran into when I was first starting to DM (many many years ago) was prepping my adventures the same way that they are laid out in pre-written adventures.
That meant planning out entire story arcs at a time, plotting exactly where players would go, blocks of text to read out.. 🧵
