Played through first of these levels, and the thing in the 3rd person rail shooter subgenre it's even more strongly evoking for me is the Panzer Dragoon series.
Those who are loving these levels and want more of this type of thing: seek out Panzer Dragoon Orta or Sin & Punishment: Star Successor.

The new Hyrule Warriors has aerial rail shooter levels and they are glorious.

I think this every time I play Panzer Dragoon Saga, but someone should make an Ecco RPG in this style. The exploration and battle system would work just as well with you swimming instead of flying, and Ecco's vibe would be a great fit for this sort of lonely, desolate single character RPG journey.

I spent all of yesterday setting up the new handheld emulator and mostly transferring close to 1tb of games to the SD card. So far, my favorite thing is how good the Saturn emulator is, and I can finally play Panzer Dragoon Saga, the cult classic JRPG.

Today I discovered Terra Magica, an original album by Panzer Dragoon music composer Saori Kobayashi.
I have never wanted a physical copy of a cd so badly in my life, but it seems after a deep dive, there's none to be had. Not even on ebay.
Sad times. I guess I'll have to settle for the digital copy.

Today I discovered Terra Magica, an original album by Panzer Dragoon music composer Saori Kobayashi.

I was able to get some sigs added to that game added later, like dragon designer and current Phantasy Star Online 2 producer, Satoshi Sakai, for example. This one, however, is an illo that was never officially released afaik but which producer Yukio Futatsugi let me make a print of. Rarer than rare.

Panzer Dragoon: A game I've seen played as far as I can remember but never beaten. Surprised I was able to do it first try with only a few deaths, never made it past Episode 4 before. This game rules, fantastic atmosphere, sound, music and gameplay, once you get used to the framerate.
