I’ve always chocked it up to noble-savage racism too. I think he has empathy for Native Americans not because they are victims of atrocities, but rather in the way one has empathy for a blue whale or bengal tiger.

I will say that I chose the slightly more expensive option that gives more legroom / closer seats and (crucially) lets you board with group 4. I was traveling for work and it meant I had less anxiety about my connections and I find waiting around to board with a rush of people very stressful.
I flew AA back and forth to Texas (too) many times. They were fine. The app is decent and my big problems were weather related. (Keep any meds in your carry-on! I did get my bag back but it took a few days after the weather disaster).
