Die statement ‘als bedrijven weg zijn kunnen we woningbouw niet meer betalen’ slaat ook helemaal nergens op, versimpeld beeld van fiscaliteit, en ook totaal niet de realiteit

My money is on endogenous.

You just cant beat a well maintained public space, a friendly community vibe, and nice parks with green space…

I know I’ve talked a lot about EVs and batteries for natsec reasons. And I still stand by those points. But the future of personal transport, in my view, should center around bikes and public transport - particularly high speed trains. I get the suburban car owner argument. But efficiency wise…

Bikes are the future of urban transportation. It's already happening in Montreal. This article is paywalled but you can read it for free if you set up an account.

Forget EVs. Cycling is revolutionising transport
Pedal power is booming, spinning up a new culture war

There won’t be a semiconductor ‘deepseek moment’. Making cutting edge chips from scratch and converging with Western semiconductor tech requires decades of incremental progress across a range of closely monitored sectors, which is difficult to keep secret (and, apparently, to realize)

Whenever we end up building too much data center capacity…it hasn’t happened yet.
(Bloomberg) -- Microsoft Corp.'s data-center crunch will continue for longer than the company has previously outlined, underscoring the software giant's struggles to keep up with cloud demand.
Many of Microsoft's US data center regions are experiencing shortages of physical space or servers, according to people familiar with the company's internal forecasts. New subscriptions for Azure cloud services are restricted in some crucial server-farm hubs, including Northern Virginia and Texas, through the first half of next year, said the people who requested anonymity to discuss internal forecasts. A lack of servers to rent out to customers has been a recurring concern for cloud providers in recent years. During the last six quarterly earnings calls, Microsoft has said it was unable to meet all of its customers' cloud demand. Amazon and Google have described similar constraints.
A Microsoft spokesperson said that a majority of Azure services and regions in the US "have available capacity so that existing customers with deployed workloads can continue to grow." In some cases of unplanned demand spikes, the company will introduce "capacity preservation methods" to balance customer demand across its data center fleet, the spokesperson said.

Still need massive investments in enabling infrastructure asap if we want to make it work here. Because these incentives will mostly just help CN and KR-headquartered battery manufacturers

The fundamentals of German industrial groups were a lot stronger back then, though

You could also say that the anomaly of Germany maintaining a high industry share despite its rising GDP level is now probably over and the country will continue where it left off back then.

It is a pretty dire indictment on the quality of German policy-making if we blast billions on stay-at-home subsidies and gastronomy tax cuts.

And do nothing for our most important industry bringing in 90bn in tax receipts, other than killing the ICE phaseout cuz we want to stay in the 20th century

German auto summit tomorrow.

The sole focus on the EU combustion engine phase-out, which is 10 years away, is baffling because German cars have a demand problem today

Berlin worries a new EV subsidy scheme would be fiscally too expensive.

But demand-side support is a fiscal no-brainer here.

It’s obviously not a ‘global city’ on the level of Paris, London, etc. But still, punching above its weight

No but seriously, everyone told me about how dark and grimy Berlin was supposed to be. But it’s actually quite pleasant. Reminds me of a landlocked The Hague but more spacious. Maybe I need to see the gritty parts and meet some ‘real’ Berliners
