Leunig, a former gov adviser, said scrapping it — while it would boost growth and productivity — would be “a very, very big tax cut for rich people”. One effect would be to boost house prices, making the main beneficiaries the existing owners of expensive properties in the south-east of England.

Yes the USA wants Europe to be controlled by plutocrats. No thankyou.
The long-term story of US antipathy to European regulation is rather undercut by Trump's tariff obsession as his only real international trade goal, rather crucial in dealing with this administration but a distinction too often waved away by those favouring a trade war.
Out in the open: the US administration’s attempt to undermine the EU Digital Services Act (and other regulations) was evident.

Now it has been elevated to formal policy and goal of diplomatic efforts.
