Having folks enjoy board games is our glorious purpose. He/Him in the Mid-western United States.
Pro: FLGS, small publishers, great boardgames.
Con: shelving vertically, gatekeeping.

Tips for good #PitchCar tracks:
1) Require players to use all these skills: Power, finesse, accuracy, setup shots
2) Have fast & slow sections of track
3) Be aware of bottlenecks (jumps, loop, larger slow sections). Increase difficulty as you approach it to spread out players b4 it.

Had 3 at boardgame night yesterday. Finally got to bust out Clank! In! Space! Again. Been too long & I should get it to the table more. Super fun! I was the last to leave the ship & survived 2 full onslaughts from both players. Took the escape pod w/ about 40% left on my health. Won by 1 point.

Welp the boardgame design bug has got me again. This is probably the 5th game that I've started designing using a similar mechanism but this is the one that I've felt the best about so far. Even avoided the pitfall of getting overwhelmed w/ possibilities & split it into two methods to test

The absolute professionalism and gratitude of this parting of ways really is a testament to the stellar character of all those involved. Not only a great reflection on the boardgame companies & people but also really doing what's best for the consumer with the continued support of the products. ❤️
Cole Wehrle and Kyle Ferrin are leaving Leder to start a new boardgame publishing company, and they are taking the Oath and Arcs licenses with them. Leder keeps Root.

This is Luka to the Lakers kind of transfer news in the #boardgames world, right?

It was a dicey job to begin with.
Me: There was an accident at the boardgame factory.
Her: Oh God is Gary okay?!
Me: *solemnly hands over Sorry box covered in blood*
Her: *sniff* Gary always hated this fucken game

Me to every guest who makes the mistake of asking about my boardgame shelf. "I've already described most of the boardgame to you really. We might as well play it now."

My boardgame group's completed play board for 2025. Every game night we sign the date of game night, who attends, & games played. The result is a canvas that reminds us of all the fun we have around the table each year. I use it for art in my game room. Actual stats are tracked via #BGstats app.

Man, I hate boardgame crowd funding.

I am the rare exception that never has bought in all-in pledge. I bought the base set of Ra. I got Cascadia w/out promo cards. I would prefer to pay less for cardboard tokens than having any sort of mini (so long as it isn't fiddly).

My favorite running gag in Malcolm in the Middle is the patched together nonsense boardgame they have in the foreground of some shots where they need the kids to be gathered together. They literally have quartered boards from checkers, Sorry, Life, & Backgammon put together.

🎲 Informal boardgame poll 🎲

When you are in third place and you are 2/3 of the way into the game, do you target (an action that reduces their score) 2nd place that's about 5 points in front of you, or 1st place that's 10 points ahead of you?

The real question is what will be the next in the WingSpan universe.

Wingspan (birds)> Wrymspan (dragons) >Finspan (fish) > ...

Legspan (land animals)?
Beetlespan (Beetles)?

I played the God tile wrong in Ra for our first game. Accidentally was replacing the tile taken from the auction row with the God tile instead of discarding it. Did it break the game? No, but it made God tiles cycle through more. It was still fun and we corrected it for the next game.
I suspect "in the wild", folks play games wrong more than many designers think.

I also think there's a degree to which this can't be fixed, thanks to 2 unfixable issues:

1. lots of folks dislike learning rules, so they learn poorly

2. our short term memory is tiny

Getting to be that time. When buying the dog's meds...we maybe only need the year...

Really hope that we get settled with our living situation in the next few months before old age catches our dog. The "new" place wouldn't feel like home without her and I don't think the kids or I can handle it.

Played the classic partner's card game 500 over the holiday break. Hadn't played it since high school. My teammate and I were 25 years senior of the other folks but mopped the floor with them for a few games. We both prefer modern boardgames but always enjoyed the classics too.

Since game night is on January 1, this rounds out my year of boardgames. What am I dying to get back to the table? Ra, Cosmic Encounter, Scoville, Potion Explosion, & Galaxy Trucker.

3rd day of a fever today. I don't think I've had a fever this long my entire life. Not puking anymore but sweating through my sheets, my brain is melting, & body aches. If I can't break this today, then Boardgame night is cancelled.

I would wish this on my worst enemies. Get bent Daniel & Luca.

I was absolutely on fire last night for (digital) boardgames. Winning 7 of 8 games played on BGA with my weekly game group. I had to use up all my remaining luck for the year.

Only ordered 2 new boardgames for myself for the holidays, putting myself at 7 new games for all of 2025. Bunny Kingdom, Scoville, Modern Art, Radlands, Can't Stop, Flip 7, and El Grande.

What gems have you all been buying?

FOR THE LAST TIME YOU CAN'T PLACE THAT TILE THERE. TILES MUST ORTHOGONALLY BORDER AT LEAST ONE PREVIOUSLY PLACED TERRAIN OF THE SAME TYPE, HAVE AT LEAST ONE MATCHING ELEMENTAL SYMBOL, AND MEET THE FOREST CONTINUITY REQUIREMENT! THIS IS WHY I DIDN'T WANT TO 'START PLAYING AND FIGURE IT OUT AS WE GO'.

Every so often I get this terrible urge to design a boardgame. Leading to me scribbling a bunch of ideas down & then get stopped by all the possible options of how the game could go. Really just need to ram them through a self playtest/rapid prototype until something clicks but who has the time!
