We mourn what could have been and rage at what is.
The thought of doing CTR in the US is not a fun one.
one genuine terrifying thing about the (imo, unlikely, but possible) civil unrest/revolution in America is... who secures the nukes?
A civil war in the US very quickly spills over the Canadian border and probably draws them into the war one way or another.

On that note, I do find the thought experiment of how it would work, if Canada joined a EU that had gotten a strong federal government.
THAT'S RIGHT.
Even if the Americans crash out and leave nato or burn their participation in it, the Transatlantic alliance with Canada shall persist.

1. good
2. new sofa.
3. Actually just a non-starter (unless the DK and GL pm is lying) likely part of 2 depend on how they do it.
4. Is fine, subject to details.

Don't rly align with domestic reports, so the US thinks it got a deal it didn't. And there is no actual "deal". Only verbal agreement
According to the @nytimes.com, the Trump-Rutte deal over Greenland includes:
- A new NATO mission in the Arctic region
- An update to the 1951 agreement
- Sovereing bases for the US military
- Restrictions to prevent Russia and China from extracting rare earths

All is still up for discussion.

(but also fuck the senators who actually voted for this)

Lmao it's Literal SOFA update @mikeblack114.bsky.social
Incredible, Greenland's PM is now refuting the one part of this that represented any change to the status quo ante.

*GREENLAND PM: NOT AWARE OF TALKS ON MINERAL RESOURCES
So literally nothing. Beautiful.

Now let's see if things start to happen in the baltic. That'd be fun.
French outlet Le Monde reports that France has intercepted a Russian shadow fleet tanker.

Yeah, I did notice when the KoDk-Us meeting happened last week. The danish FM would just not stop saying "I'm no Chamberlain"

He said it again after the Trump-rutte meeting news went out.
European senior diplomats are (indirectly) comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler
January 22, 2026 at 3:37 PM
So there was some coordination about what rutte could mention to trump. Among them the 51 agreement, which reopening isn't a red line.

HOWEVER, any promises given to trump, we're on behalf of nato. Not Denmark.

*TRUMP: BIG RETALIATION IF EUROPE SELLS US ASSETS LIKE BONDS
January 22, 2026 at 1:08 PM
Many are saying!

But yes, rebalanced relationship. Won't become fully apparent until Europe gets to a more comfortable place in terms of rearming.
Latest post tries to catch up with the back and forth on Greenland. I argue that rather this being a rupture (as Mark Carney suggested) the European response shows a transition to a rebalanced transatlantic relationship with diminished US power. (£/free trial), open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/t...?

What a stupid and anticlimactic potential end to this thing. Yet, also kinda what was expected
Just so fucking absurd. Trump is happy, he made a deal in his head.

And the danish gov can't answer what it's the fucking thing.

Like fucking christ. And this is how we might have avoided a potential (trade)war over GL.
January 22, 2026 at 10:39 AM
I suspect I might be finding the confusion over this thing more amusing than most people.
January 22, 2026 at 10:35 AM
I fucking can't man.
The US thinks they have a deal with DK and the DK doesn't know what the us thinks the deal contains.
January 22, 2026 at 10:33 AM
That guess is based on report from axios(ew) and a DW USA correspondent. So it's likely that's what the us think they are getting.

Though the mineral parts is from another source.

No clarity what should be changed.
I know I'm supposed to not be poasting, but this complete lack of clarity about what Trump thinks he agreed is too fucking good to not post about.

Best guess: reopening of 51' agreement, about mineral rights. Something vague to make it comply with domestic law.
No sovereignty to US

I just couldn't stay away because fucking lmao.
I do have stuff to do this week. And so I will probably take a bit of a break from posting unless something major comes that requires a crash out.

Given the answers from the pm. Imma be real guys, I don't think the danish government knows whats in that agreement.
Domestic media is making a big deal out of the vagueness of the Trump-rutte "deal"
Pm Frederiksen: rutte doesn't have a mandate to negotiate on kingdoms behalf, negotiations on greenland are between the kingdom and the US.

Ofcourse we won't give up sovereignty to the US.

Lmao has rutte and trump made an agreement without danish input whatsoever at all.

Yeah basically what I said less politely when trump said it was important for the piss dome.
"The Kingdom of Denmark wishes to continue to engage in a constructive dialogue with allies on how we can strengthen security in the Arctic, including the US's Golden Dome, provided that this is done with respect for our territorial integrity."

Full statement.

Basically aligns with what the FM said last week
"JD Vance & Secretary of State Marco Rubio, had been 'pushing for a middle ground' on Greenland, while... Stephen Miller showed a willingness to keep annexation and the potential use of military force on the table ....the president had wanted to retain the option of a military move."
Trump reversal on Greenland followed push by aides against military option, sources say reut.rs/45ioNXK
