Sometimes it really feels there are only two camps here:

1. "What? This is horrible? This isn't us, America [meaning U.S.]."

and

2. "What? The U.S. has always been like this bad. Nothing's changed."

Like we can go from bad to worse and still complain about it getting worse!
No one should vote for Newsom in the primary.
I can't fault you for it, and especially in 2025, Democrats should know people like you exist and are worth wooing instead of trying to get the Cheney crowd.
If it came down to Newsom v. a Trumpy presidential candidate in 2028, I'd vote for Newsom, but there's absolutely no reason in 2025 to be defending Newsom's nonsense. Newsom is not the nominee.

It's 2025 and no primaries for 2028 have happened. Why are so many on Bluesky talking as if Gavin Newsom is the presumptive Democratic nominee?

Bag on him. Call him out on his shit. But don't give him anything he didn't earn (like the presidential candidate nomination).

A reminder that if you’re progressive, you don’t get to pick and choose which vulnerable groups you support. You actually need to support them all. Palestinians, disabled ppl, trans ppl. Everyone. That’s how this works 🫶🏻
hey just an fyi if you see someone at your anti-authoritarianism event advocating for palestine, don’t be like this lady who doesn’t understand that the u.s. government is funding a genocide led by a deranged authoritarian government abroad.

it’s not a good look. please stop doing this.
Why can't I type properly? Should be "if NYT felt the immediate effects of..."
It'd be great if NYT felt seem immediate effects of their bullshit "journalism."

It'd be great if everyone going to a No Kings protest (and even those not going) canceled their subscriptions to the New York Times and Washington Post. I guarantee you there are a lot of these folks still subscribed. Take that money and put it to ProPublica and 404 Media. That would move the needle
Makes sense to me. If the police don't start violence at the protest, there will be no violence at the protest.
What's extra disgusting about this is the Israeli hostages whose remains can't be found are almost certainly hostages Israel itself killed through its mass-bombing campaign to slaughter Palestinians in Gaza.

States the regime is shafting should make it so federal taxes for W2s don't get automatically sent to the federal government. Instead, the state holds those funds until the federal government operates as it should based on the Constitution and actual congressionally passed laws.

If anyone's wondering how this is possible, the answer is these strike teams are moving terrifyingly fast. Grab first, ask questions later. We were about 8-15 minutes behind them today for several hours. They're jumping out of vans, chasing people across lawns, taking them from bus stops, etc
30 people disappeared in this shaded area today.

NEW: The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did.

We found more than 170 such incidents since the start of the second Trump administration. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes nearly 20 children, two of whom have cancer.
More Than 170 U.S. Citizens Have Been Held by Immigration Agents. They’ve Been Kicked, Dragged and Detained for Days.

My dream home lies in ruins. I will never forgive Israel, or the world

After the Israeli army razed my childhood home 25 years ago, I spent years building a new one for my family. Now, like most of Khan Younis, all that remains is rubble.

It's gross, because it's doubtful those snooty assholes are doing anything productive, but it's also gross, because it assumes there's only one right way to protest.

People can march, boycott, make art, do mutual aid, legislate, make speeches, write, etc. It isn't just ONE THING.
"Ellis Island officials didn't have authority" has very "Trump can't do that because it's unconstitutional" vibes. Who's going to stop him? SCOTUS? The constitution police?

🚫Most of the Gaza prisoners came out to find their families or children martyred. Most of the Gaza prisoners were psychologically tortured during captivity; they were told "We killed your family" and shown how they were bombed.
Unless it's an active dream sequence, there's no good reason to have a fiction book written in the present tense. I hate this trend. Make it easier to suspend my disbelief. When I read a book, I always imagine to myself I've found a manuscript, not that I'm talking to someone using text-to-speech.
No one has to imagine it. Gen Z protested Israel's genocide in Gaza, and these brave students faced persecution, police brutality, and kidnapping.
Even the "let's hear both sides" supposedly "objective" legacy media can't manage to pretend "all lives matter" here.

Only Al Jazeera mentions the hostages Israel was keeping. NBC and ABC care to humanize only the Israeli hostages. To them, Palestinians are only numbers, not humans. Disgusting.

Activists from CODEPINK NC and allied groups repeatedly disrupted a speaking event in North Carolina featuring Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, who previously vetoed three Gaza ceasefire resolutions, confronting her a total of five times during the event.

There's much to support here but, rather than be sent to Hague, those who have committed #genocide, armed it or otherwise made it possible, should face justice before a court that is convened in a #freePalestine.
