Not the most important bit in this story, but what a weird comment.

I know 3 guys named Jihad, including a Catholic. Lebanon has Christians named Jihad. The word is in the Arabic bible.

It does not have the same connotations that the post-9/11 Western world thinks it does. It's just a name.

Yesterday, police named the attacker as Jihad al- Shamie, 35, a British citizen of Syrian descent. Asked about his name, on LBC, Mahmood says: • I was very surprised to discover that name myself. Actually, as a Muslim, I've never heard someone being called Jihad, but it is the name that he was born with - that has always been his name. PA Media reports that a police officer is standing guard restricting entrance to Langley Crescent, where Al- Shamie is believed to have lived in the three-bed end- terrace council property. Dozens of reporters are also camped in the street outside as more police arrive in a van at the property in Prestwich, a couple of miles from the synagogue in Crumpsall.

The Islamophobia Register will run out of core funding soon and the @albomp.bsky.social government refuses to top it up. It received only $1 million, compared to the $25 million received by the Executive Council of Australian Jewry.

This differential treatment is why what happened on Sky happened.
