Pinned
I’ve been playing about with creating new feeds this week.

This one should show gig pictures (as long as someone uses the word gig in their post).
Have a try and pin it if you think it might be of interest, the more feed options the better I’m finding.

5. Angel - Massive Attack
Mezzanine
1998

So dark, so powerful, so wonderful. Turn up the bass. Mezzanine was when I fully appreciated Massive Attack and what a start to the album this is.

The power on stage went... music stopped for 15 minutes while new cables etc. put in place. Plectrums were thrown... MBV Manchester.

Loudest of the loud 🙉. So loud, the sound system failed twice. Some blurry pics of my bloody valentine from the back of Aviva Studios in Manchester last night

Deteriorating sound and a full on technical meltdown thankfully didn’t stop My Bloody Valentine delivering an ear battering 2 hour set at Manchester’s Aviva Studios.

My Bloody Valentine, Aviva Studios. 24th November 2025
I held my breath getting in tonight. My ticket came via a fan exchange after I missed out on the original sale… and well, you just never know if it’s going to work do you. I’m really not keen on resal...

The first gift I ever got my wife, 25 years ago, was a copy of Loveless by My Bloody Valentine. I would not have predicted that one day we'd take our teenage son to see them live, not least because back then the band appeared to be defunct. But that's what happened last night.

Always a joy to be blasted by My Bloody Valentine. Last night was also a tribute to Mani and for @thequietus.com I dug into the idea of extreme noise as a vehicle for calm and tranquility. thequietus.com/quietus-revi...

My favourite My Bloody Valentine song, at Aviva Manchester. Right up front this time but it didn't feel oversold at all. I used to play this track weekly on my radio program when it was first released. 🥲

MY BLOODY VALENTINE

There's absolutely no question that last night was truly one of the loudest gigs that I've ever been to. It's over 30 years since I last saw them, but that was a pretty special gig.

6. Already There - The Verve
A Storm In Heaven
1993

Early Verve were the best, and this track encapsulates that feel. Delicate and sounding wide-open to then exploding out, before finishing quietly. I love this whole album, one of my favourites.

Couldn't believe the size of the room (Aviva Studio Manchester but not a bit of it I've been in before) but My Bloody Valentine filled every corner with sound. Loud, yes, obviously but astonishingly clear. I'm actually no more deaf this morning than I usually am!

My Bloody Valentine - Aviva Studios, Manchester

Noise annoys - but it can also be quite thrilling! Second time I’ve seen them - ear plugs inserted - they play a decibel below the legal limit. Some technical hiccups - but didn’t spoil the vibe!

“You Made Me Realise” went on for 10 minutes 💥

Fabulous My Bloody Valentine gig, power cut out during the middle of Soon, so after fixing they started again and same thing happened in the middle, so 5 minute delay before ready for the last 3 songs, even allowed Kevin to chat to us very briefly. All part of the MBV charm.

7. Memory Babe - The Boo Radleys
Everything's Alright Forever
1992

I had more of my top rated songs by the Boos than anyone else (13 v Slowdive 11) but opted for one from the best album in the world (IMO) which shows off their pop sensibilities within a shoegaze sound.

In addition, the decision's been taken to run it exclusively on BlueSky this year and I'll not be taking any votes on the Twitter/X account.
Reminder that we'll be opening the vote for the 2025 Festive 50 on Friday 28th for those of you lovely lovely people who like to get their votes in early.

Voting will be open for two weeks and the final day of voting will be Sunday 14th December, for those of you sadists who like to make me sweat.

8. Roads - Portishead
Dummy
1994

Dummy was such a breath of fresh air to the music scene, I fell in love with it. This song is so beautifully sung and with the orchestration it’s perfectly put together. Reminds me of the Glasgow-Edinburgh train, attending actuarial tutorials.
