A huge relief to see the Israeli hostages released and the joy on family faces. But the fact that Israel has banned Palestinians from celebrating the release of their relatives, posting on social media or giving interviews - most held without charge - tells us how much there is to go.

Very much enjoyed being a guest at @quietriotpod.bsky.social -
Always interesting, often funny. Makes life a bit more bearable in spite of all the doom and gloom around. 👇
“We saw it during Brexit and we see it with the AfD in Germany. Pandering to the far right never works. And yet conservative parties seem to have this - in German we call it ‘Angstlust’ - a desire to go somewhere dangerous.”

I really love @annettedittert.bsky.social's scrupulous, unfussy honesty.

"Stop the marches" involves a call to curb lawful speech, motivated by preventing antisemitism (for some), and/or motivated by defending Israel from attack (that some say is antisemitic)

The IHRA definition is an attempt to remove lawful speech from civic spaces because it is racist (antisemitic)

It is not antisemitic to challenge Israeli policy, until and unless the argument doing so is antisemitic. (Stop the War is OK. Wipe Israel from the map is not OK). It is not anti-Muslim to challenge the policy of Muslim majority States, like Saudi Arabia, unless the argument is sweeping prejudice

Supporting violence, antisemitism and targeting Jews need deep red lines

It is wrong to hold British Jews responsible for Netanyahu

By same token, must separate challenges to Israeli military policy or political support for Palestinian state from solidarity with Jews against hatred here

My heartbreak and horror at the killing and starvation of Gazans does not negate my total support and solidarity with my fellow jewish citizens across the UK against terror. The conflation on display by some politicians and media outlets over the last 24 hours is sickening.

The idea that being a refugee is somehow a “golden ticket” is genuinely awful. These are people who the government have recognised are in need of protection. Do they think people chose that? That that’s what people wanted?

Sorry, but taking tariffs off fish imported from Greenland is not going to make any material impact on prices. And promising such simply sets the government up for failure. Like so much of UK trade policy, a long outdated playbook. www.gov.uk/government/n...

In trying to elicit sympathy, The Teleform may have landed Farage in trouble instead. I don't see this declared as a donation anywhere in his register of interests...

Frustrating to hear the Chief Rabbi speak about "the unjustified demonisation of Israel".

It's entirely justified to demonise people intent on genocide. It always was.
Good Jewish people have always spoken out about the RW Zionist oppression of Palestine.
Albert Einstein wanted a peaceful coexistence of Jews & Palestinians.
He opposed the violence now being done even worse by RW forces under the cloak of retribution in Gaza
In 1948 he & others called them Fascists

It is scary how many in the West are quickly adopting a Trumpian approach.

This labelling of anything you disagree with as un-whatever-country is a clear step in the very wrong direction.

Stopped listening and unsubbed many moons ago.
Ditto R4 Today when I got fed up of all the shouty nonsense. Even the lovely Emma Barnett & Amol Rajan haven’t been enough to keep me listening.
Big 👏 for Quiet Riot.

For the same reasons as Peter, just unfollowed the BBC’s Newscast, now following @quietriotpod.bsky.social and listening to their podcast right now.
Thanks for the suggestion.
After listening to my preferred news source today, @quietriotpod.bsky.social , I have unsubscribed from the BBC's Newscast.

I stopped listening to Newscast because of its constant pro-Farage and pro-Israel bias.

I’ve also switched.

@queitriotpod.bsky.social suits me perfectly. A sensible explanation and interpretation of the key talking points

In all honesty, it’s not rhetoric any more. It’s not narrative. I’ve experienced more racism in the last 4 months than I can ever remember. The wheels are off in the UK and it’s being led by 3 political parties.
Maybe if lots of us unsubscribe from BBC's Newscast because of its pro-Farage and pro-Israel bias, it will be a small part of sending them a message.

This tweet has been doing the rounds on Twitter now that Nathan Gill has pleaded guilty.

If only someone had tried to investigate UKIP & Russian interference 🧐

There’s another timeline where the Guardian supported me, doubled down on the investigation & I look 5 years younger ..

Sometimes the behaviour of this government is so stupid I feel like I've been punched in the guts: WHY ARE WE CHARGING AMERICAN SCIENTISTS ANY VISA FEE AT ALL TO COME HERE TO WORK, just poach every single one of those people asap & bank the results ffs

Charlie Kirk to Zelensky saying thank you for 🇺🇸 support.

Utterly shameful. Of course he should not be murdered. But he writes off the genocidal murder of Ukraine🇺🇦 by 🇷🇺

“We don’t support you
Show some respect next time
You are an ungrateful petulant child WHO’S RESPONSIBLE FOR 1 MILLION DEAD”

The justice system backlog is delaying justice. With more than 300,000 cases waiting to be heard in the magistrates' court, we cannot afford for hundreds of people to be arrested for protesting peacefully.
