What makes me even madder is that there's zero reason a doorbell camera couldn't store hours of footage locally and upload it once the wifi is back on. It's purely a business decision that hurts consumers.
For context, I'm a former Google/Nest engineer who now works on local-only devices.

I'm an engineer who's worked on this stuff at Google, and you're absolutely right. There's no reason for a doorbell camera to stop recording just because the internet is out. "Smart" objects should be local-first, not require connectivity for their basic operation.

I came here on an H1B visa almost 25 years ago. The system was stressful enough back then, my heart goes out to visa holders having to deal with the current chaos.
Immigrants just want to work hard, contribute, and find a home here in the US. Nobody deserves the treatment many are receiving.
