2026 Book Thread! Going to try to put down a little note about the books I read this year.
i am once again recommending the Pittsburgh band Heading North, in particular their songs "The Mon" and "Two Steps Away". They're putting out new music this year too!

Reminds me of 2017-2020. Fascists invaded Portland and the local government never did anything to stop them and usually protected the fash from counter-protesters, then beat the counter-protesters when the fascists left.

A buddy in MN shared a drawing a classmate of his kid made. They've been making thank you notes for parents who have volunteered to carpool them to school so their own parents don't have to risk waiting out by the bus stop.

so much to cover right now, but a thread i just want to throw out there from my reporting is that the car rental market in minneapolis is reportedly totally screwed up right now because ICE has cleared the inventory. rental companies should have to answer for supplying vehicles used in terror.

law enforcement really cannot beat these fucking numbers. they don't have the goons. crowds like the ones in MN are only partially controllable by the city/state cops too, they don't have enough riot goons to deal with multiple separate crowds

Quoting this again this morning - you hear the whistles start and then big boy in the gray prevents the federal agent from entering the business they're walking towards and then there are 15 people with him and the feds can't do shit. Terrible situation but beautiful that so many come running.

Going off my last post, have never once in my life seen a city cop in a variety of cities draw a handgun like this while in a skirmish line with crowd control munitions out. These guys are scared and it is fucking dangerous. Obviously the only thing to do is keep tanking their morale but woof.

I've noticed this as well. The crowd control training is super uneven across the various agencies and their sub teams. City police departments are much, much better at doing things like making a skirmish line and picking people to arrest. These guys are just cutting loose.
the thing that jumps out to me (I am not a crowd control knower so take it with all the salt in the world) but the feds are all freelancing. chasing guys around for throwing snowballs. half-assedly spraying protestors without rhyme or reason (and having people stay up).

The average PGH Critical Mass participant (or even Pittsburgh cyclist) has reacted to more dangerous cars with substantially more calm and aplomb than the fucking cowards the state has hired to kill us.

The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says they've been informed by the FBI that US DOJ has said FBI will solely lead the investigation into Renee Nicole Good's killing by a federal officer. State investigators no longer have access to "case materials, scene evidence/investigative interviews"
