What's happening now is kind of worse. The Nazis rose to power while the German Economy was in shambles, with hyperinflation, etc. The great crisis in America was “You must be nice to people you don't like”. The original Nazi-enablers were facing starvation—we were facing tolerating drag queens.

As I remember, in my neighborhood that gaming system was only discussed in hushed tones, as if we weren't entirely convinced it really existed. Because, for us, it effectively didn't.

Anything that requires qualitative analysis is impervious to AI. Not that techbros understand that, but it's still true. And important.

Speaking of saguaro, lots of sources claim they're only found in the Sonoran Desert. I haven't found any explanation for why there's hundreds of them growing on the western foothills of the Walapai mountains, in Arizona's Mohave County.

I was heartened to see that support for political violence has gone down significantly since NoKings 1 (to the lowest level I have measured in 2025). Political assassinations and violence against protesters are likely to have played a role in this noteworthy change.

AFAICT, weird collective-memory rewrites of trauma are not new. Consider the multiple sitcoms in the 1960s that were set *during* WW2. E.g., McHale's Navy, and Hogan's Heroes (and presumably others I can't remember).
