Donating to any democratic candidate in the last decade is "providing material support to terrorism" now.

I volunteer for the next drone strike, I guess.

ActBlue, Open Society, Indivisible—terrorists all.

Note how slipshod, confused, and ramshackle this project sounds even from quoted behind-the-scenes insiders. Miller WANTS it to sound maximally ominous and intimidating. The targets should hold their heads high and carry on.

Christian ethics leaves no room debate Stephen Miller, only forgive him.

Great thread.
I especially liked, "You cannot debate professional liars like Stephen Miller. You cannot find common ground. Why? Because *they are too weak to be worthy of trust*. They can only be opposed."

1. Today, I have a few things to say about that putz Stephen Miller. First, he’s been on TV a lot lately, because that’s how he pours more poison into the president’s already-poisoned brain.

I think the point of the government is to make people's lives better and not worse and this actually has a moral dimension that supersedes political expediency. Horrible things will happen under this admin no matter what anyone does, people don't need to be scared about them turning off the stove.

i don’t think we “have” to immiserate people. but the idea that voters must be protected from the consequences of their actions is not only incredibly, decadently precious but also fundamentally antidemocratic.

Important discovery fight taking shape in Kilmar Abrego Garcia's criminal case.

The question: Can the government assert privilege to avoid handing over documents that may be relevant to a defendant's vindictive prosecution claim?

Abrego's counsel says no.

You know what I'm curious about?

States like Texas who consent to Trump sending their NG troops to other states.

I wonder what would happen if, say, Illinois sued Texas for consenting.

SCOTUS would have original jurisdiction and would have to take it out of the gate.

The weird thing is that, by their own logic, the courts are "correct" in their deference to the executive.

We are living in a Schmittian republic now.

I fear that is the reality.

It is checked *only* by political constraints.

The 9th circuit TRO appeal did not go well for Oregon today. Not sure how the 7th will address today's ruling, but the problem is not just SCOTUS. Circuit courts are regularly granting deference to executive as well.

NYT adds to @juddlegum.bsky.social's reporting about the billionaires that Scott Bessent is bailing out by propping up Javier Milei.

www.nytimes.com/2025/10/09/u...
Those efforts have been complicated by the fact that major hedge funds, including those led by friends of Mr. Bessent, stand to benefit financially from an Argentina economic lifeline. Funds at investment firms including BlackRock, Fidelity and Pimco are heavily invested in Argentina, as are investors such as Stanley Druckenmiller and Robert Citrone, both of whom worked with Mr. Bessent when he was an investor for George Soros.

A very weird detail in this WSJ story about Trump’s weaponization of DOJ and FBI:

“Trump occasionally reminds aides about an incident last year in which Trump cut his hand on Bondi’s large wedding ring, causing him to bleed.”

That makes sense. Looking at primarily courts has been pretty bleak, despite transient victories at the district level. The race is against the (2026?) clock, to make political constraints irrelevant. I don't know how that goes, but feel like it's largely underrated as a possibility.
