I don't think that's the differentiator. That puts the burden on them to know what you remembered.

If they know you read it, not a spoiler (assuming it is an event in the book). If they don't know you read it, technically a spoiler.

I'll admit, as I get older, & I forget, more things feel spoilery

I would say yes. Shows take liberties with books.

The exception is if the person knew you had read the book and they state a fact from the book versus a change from the book. Example, "The Red Wedding was phenomenal."

A pal was furious with me for “spoilering” who becomes the emperor in HBOs ROME and I was like “this information has been in the public domain for 2000+years”

Actually my most unhinged is that given the Doctor’s companions are essentially their pets the romance stuff is skin crawlingly creepy

Tell me your most unhinged Doctor Who opinion. I mean, if you’re a fan, they’re likely all unhinged anyway.

Did… do no one vet the title of this book?
The book by The Reverend Fergus Butler-Gallie is subtitled “confessions and communions of a young priest” and is called “Touching Cloth”

The answer to "how does [author] hold up?" is always "for whom?" Bester holds up fine to me, but I'm a 56-year-old white dude who has a vested interest in the genre. My take on his hold-uppedness will be different than, say, a 15-year-old BIPOC girl approaching science fiction for the first time.

one of the things that’s vaguely unnerving about watching baseball in 2025 is that every other ad is for some drug with a name that sounds like a tech company from 2002 that comes with a laundry list of side effects like “makes you blind” and “exposure to sunlight may cause skin to catch fire”

Most "classics" are boring as fuck to a modern reader in no small part because the context of the story is not understood by them and so many of the allusions and "inside jokes" known to then-contemporary readers have been lost in time and in translation

As we all know, real activists who achieve real things talk about doing federal crimes on public social media all the time

(do not trust anyone who talks about how cool doing federal crimes is on public social media)

Today I learned there is such a thing as National Boss's Day, and that allegedly it is this Thursday and I SWEAR TO GOD that if I find out any of you have participated in such a craven act of subservience to the ownership caste I will find you and give you SUCH a noogie

Police officers who publicly declare that they’ll quit if a mayoral candidate they dislike wins the election are (1) usually bluffing—sure buddy, toss away that paycheck and pension—and (2) exactly the sort of cops cities would be better off without, ones who don’t see themselves as public servants.

It a good plan. The birds clearly appreciate it
