Axios rips this website in two every time it posts anything. Half of you are screaming that the sky is falling and the other half are posting smug ball knowing takes about sourcing and probability.
Not good! We take the bait every time. This behavior is part of the reason bad journalism sells.

"most dem victories where centrists"
i say later in the 🧵, i'm not claiming this as a victory for either normie dems or socialists
it's a victory for opposing fascism & not trying to appease it (which comes in both lib & left variants)

Democrats just ran the table, winning the marquee races -- NJ and VA sweeps, NYC mayor, CA prop, PA Supreme Court -- and lower-profile races in red and purple states across the nation.
If the media you're reading or watching paints this as anything but a massive win, stop reading or watching them.

Like what the fuck are we supposed to be when Biden's signature achievement in office was literally called the "Inflation Reduction Act" and every commentator ostensibly on our side keeps pretending he nominated Ru Paul for Fed Chair.

My final non-important input on the NYC Mayoral race is that, as a card-carrying centrist lib, I would rather be in a coalition with Democratic Socialists (for all I disagree with them on) than in a coalition with fascists, quislings, or collaborators; it's not even close.

Someday there will be a reckoning for the serial killings that the US government is engaged in on the oceans. Another admin should not refuse to extradite indicted officials to Intl Criminal Courts and senior military officers “just following orders” should not be exempted.

I'm partially convinced the whole ballroom and arch thing is downstream of someone convincing the dying narcissist that he will be remembered better from these works than from expanding the territory of the USA by invading Canada or Greenland.
the point of the ballroom obvs has nothing to do with aesthetics. it's to create an architectural structure to honor the patronage networks that currently dominate US politics. previous WH venues hosted maybe a couple of hundred people; this hosts nearly 1,000 rich donors.

I do feel like Trump declaring himself king, even wink-and-nod jokingly, is a violation of his personality cult.
The only reason I can think of why "I'm a king" is and "I could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue" isn't is that the former is Euro-coded and the latter is cowboy-coded.

I honestly don’t get this stance. You can’t be in this camp without having “win more elections” as a necessary higher priority. The Dems had 50 senate seats including Manchin and Sinema, neither of whom would blow up the filibuster or allow structural reform to happen.

The corollary of "voters don't pay attention and just blamed Biden/Harris for inflation" is that voters are not paying enough attention to parse who's responsible for this shutdown like us terminally politically online people. They'll basically just blame the guy in charge (ostensibly Trump).
I think it'll be very interesting to watch how media interactions and beltway media reactions change when the instant polling comes back over the weekend showing that the Republicans are decisively blamed for the shutdown.

"Dems will get blamed for a shutdown" as opposed to what, all the friendly coverage and positive credit they'd get for caving yet again? This whole premise is built on a delusion about what the alternative is. There's no cowering in the corner and being so inoffensive they won't still attack you.

So which one do we think it was:
1. Sinclair Execs realized this is a terrible idea which would have abyssmal ratings and backed out
OR
2. Advertisers for the slot started pulling out after watching Disney get slammed online and in the stock market
Personally, my bets are on 2.

Look, they do not have the capacity or competence to do this at the scale they want you to fear they do, and your fear is precisely their greatest force multiplier. Everybody who is cowed into silence by their threats allows them a smaller pool to focus on.
